Scamp 16' door and gravel shield renov, Correction of some problem on my scamp Options

Today i finish the renovation on my Scamp

I have some problem with my door
First the hinge have some loose , i replace it not great renov
Second the lower front end of the door don't close tight , i correct it , i remove the door and remove carpet, and make 3 saw cut on the inside fiberglass, i bent the door with a ratchet strp and make fiberglass to maintain it in the good position i use premix (fiberglass fiber mix with resin )

Now the door fit exactly with the body of the scamp, before i have 1/2 inch opening on bottom

Perfect fit

the third problem , i don't like that the door was sealed on the carpet , i cut them and resuface the contact part of the door with gelcoat , now the seal is in contact with gelcoat not on the carpet

The other correction was the gravel shield i take my old door hinge and modified it
I cut it and reweld with 30 degre angle and use it for sield hinge

Now the rust on fiberglass is finish , i make new lock on the bottom make with a stainless stell flat bar
this job finished my spring modification , next week i start from Quebec Canada to one month vacation to Louisiana

I take some information in the site, when i can give on i make it

Your work looks good.

May I suggest you post pictures rather than links. Sometimes outside photo hosting services stop hosting and we lose the pictures forever. For example Lance did a great slide show on his blue boler and his provider said they would not provide the service just this year, now we have to wait for him to post his pictures all over again.

Your next project should be a screen door for your visit to Louisiana, where lots of mosquitoes live!

One way to do this is to use wooden inserts on the door jambs to make them straight, then you can fabricate a door from a window screen kit from hardware store and some pop rivets, plus a little scrap aluminum for added stability.

Hi Pete I have the factory screen door install in my scamp
After my vacation in Louisiana the next modification is remove front bunk and make a front dinette
I have make some research and after planification it is possible

Yvon, I am curious about something:

Did you use fiberglass cloth (or biaxial, etc.) to reinforce your repair? Or was it just resin with some fibers in it? (I'm not sure what is in the can that you show.)

I would have thought one would need cloth, but then I don't know the product you used.

Interresting concept. I know that Plasto makes compounds for the repair of plastic bumpers and injection mold plastic. Does it also make fiberglass products?

I would also like to know what Yvon is using to hold up the gravel shield. When we bought the Scamp we wondered why the gravel shield hadn't been set up to open like an awning. Are they supposed to?

For holding the gravel shield , i use a set of main door hinge from Scamp
I replace the main door hinge on my scamp and use the old hinge after modification of the angle of the old hinge

Joy A provides some instructions on making some struts to hold up the Gravel Guard. They're simple to make... I made mine two years ago and they work great! You'll find her instructions and others too in this topic:
