Okay, one thing we can all do to help get back that homey feeling is to put your avatar back. Just in case you forgot, here's a guideline.

First, make sure your picture meets the following specs:

Your avatar must be no bigger than 75 pixels by 75 pixels in size. Uploaded avatars from your computer must be no larger than 8 KB.
The following file types are allowed: gif .jpeg .jpg .png

Okay, now that you have a picture ready,

Click on: My Controls

Click on: Edit Avatar (left, bottom)

Go to: Upload a new image from your computer

Hit browse

double click on image (that is already resized)

Click on: Update Avatar

Then return to the forum.

If something happens you don't see it, hit your refresh button.

NOTE: If I made a mistake in my instructions, let me know and I will edit them.

Bingo---got my avatar back. I thought about changing it, but this picture of Tommy looking out over a valley with rain and the colors of rain in the distance I named inspiration when I first saw it. --- Thus, I thought it should remain here as that is how I feel this morning.

Just got here on the West Coast, logged in, and could not believe how many people have started to bring this forum back---won't take long!

It is still the great forum I thought it was when I discovered it the first time. 53.gif

Mine happened to be intact, along with other aspects of my membership data. 94.gif
Donna D.
Don't forget to check your board settings for the correct time in your zone. When I initially logged back in, mine was set to something about Casablanca time 53.gif
Morgan
My avatar was intact.

My time zone was intact.
Donna D.
Along with the site, the admins and moderators were yanked about too....that's why I showed up as the "newest" member...I had to reregister. Good thing I still had my avatar...I would have missed that hottie and no one would recognize me 33.gif

Good to know the members are fine 53.gif
Al V
how do you get avitar down to under 8k smallest i can get has been 16 and that is with a 32 x 32 thumbnail 29.gif
Donna D.
Al, it helps if the dpi is no more than 72 dpi. Quite often if someone tries to use a pic they've taken with a digital camera, the dpi will be 150-600 dpi...WAAAAAY to big. My avatar is only 4k 53.gif
Gina D.
I wonder why some stayed, and some didn't. Was it just the mods?

Mine was uploaded from my server, not my machine. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.
jdtrotter
Frederick and Gina,

Are your Avatars showing? They are not showing on my computer and others are???

Diane

Gina, your signature picture shows.
Gina D.
Yes, they are showing on my machine. Freds is too. Morgans did as well.

My sig picture is a direct upload from one of my servers, so he/she/it couldn't get to that.

Looks like the avatars reside on MFROG tho. Maybe Michael pummeled the children before they got that far.
jdtrotter
Strange,

I see Morgan, Donna's, Suz and others, but not yours or Fred's---

What does anyone else see? Is my computer???????

Diane
Mary F
I'm getting what you're getting, Diane.

I don't know if there's a pattern to why some member data was destroyed and other was left alone.

48.gif Thanks, Suz, for thinking of putting the Avatar Recovery instructions on here.

Donna, I was in Casablanca when I reregistered, too!

It was a whirlwind trip!

Same here, except I don't see Al V's.
Donna D.
It's 1:51pm Pacific Time right now....I see everyone's avatar's except Fredericks 52.gif

and ooops, I don't see my signature...gotta fix that 53.gif
Donna D.
Now that's interesting....I went back into my post and added the information about the signature. When the topic redisplayed...a bunch of avatars were missing. Refreshing didn't help either. 52.gif

My membership information appears to be intact, and I see lots of avatars, which led me to guess that membership data had survived -- but apparently it is not complete. I don't use an avatar, or signature line, so the fact that you don't see them on my post is not a problem.
Dave Chatham
Okay, I have to stop going to work, this thing was working last time I looked. Now I am checking to see if I have an avatar still. I don't know if i still have the photo I used since I lost 3 years of digitals when my hard drive broke.

Great! now I am just a rectangle with an X angry.gif
Donna D.
I see your avatar Dave aplas.gif When you finally see it, I'd suggest you snag it! 53.gif
Roger H
This IS interesting. I had to reload my avatar and photo, but the rest of my membership data remained intact. I'm not seeing Gina's, Al V's, Dave's or Frederick's avatars. They're all the box with the x. Everyone else is showing up for me.

I'm running IE 6 on a P4 with Win2k.

As usual, I'm a day late and a dollar short. What happened? I haven't been on here for a few days and ''wham'', obviously something bad happened.

Hang in there Michael. Whatever it was, I'm sure you are smarter than whoever did this. There's so much real EVIL in this world, it makes me really sick.

I sure hope we didn't lose all our good information.

Keith

PS: It looks like the only thing they took from me was my picture in my profile.

Now, after I edited the post, my Avatar is gone. ask.gif

No it's not. 22.gif

I'm going to go have a Martini. 7.gif 7.gif

It's almost like we're on a three-legged stool and someone is "hacking" at one of the legs 53.gif Everything is kinda shaky. I'm on dial-up here at home and it's taking about twice as long for stuff to load on this site.

With the few posts we currently have and the amount of folks logged in..we must have a bunch of people hanging around just to see what will happen next confuse.gif
Andy Earthman
huh
Gina D.
Various peoples that I could see before are gone now, and some I couldn't now I can.

I will make a new one and see what happens.
Mary F
The "Base Avatar Gallery" still seems to be intact. You can get to it by going to "My Controls" and then under "Edit Avatar Setting." Look through the Base Avatar Gallery and see if your avatar is there (members are listed alphabetically). If so, select yours again and update it.

If no, confuse.gif I don't know what we're gonna do about it.... 73.gif (Probably have to reupload, as has already been suggested.)
Gina D.
Nope, mine was gone. Oh well.. time for the Easter Beagle to make an appearance!
Shannon and Ross
I couldn't find my old avatar (the cute Jack Russell) but I guess my "Oscar" will do...Hhhmmm, Now I have to remember how to do my Siggy 90.gif

Oh, I forgot to say "Thank You" Suz for posting the instructions for updating our avatars 4.gif

Gonna have to wait until I get back into the U.S. (I wouldn't even try to instruct my wife on home to load a new Avatar - wonderful spouse but she married me for my computer skills --- I think)

But it gives me a good opportunity to post some new pics anyway...

29.gif Had to go into "My Controls" and reload my Avatar, luckily I was able to recover a copy of it from, shhhhhh "Another Location"

94.gif Seems to look OK now.

Just think of all the bragging we can do again of all the modifications, but going to hang back on that a bit, If Mike has a backup copy from the last upgrade, we may not have lost too much.

Hang in there!!!!!!!!!!!! cheers.gif
Mary F
Yes, do hold that thought (the one about hanging back a bit before reposting). We'll let you know when it's time to rebuild.

Meanwhile, y'all go ahead on and talk about new concerns. 31.gif
Mike-B
I had to renew my avatar. It gave me a chance to use a photo I took this fall near Red Mountain Pass Colorado. The aspen leaves were changing to their fall golden color. If you've never been in the Colorado high country in the fall, you have missed some really fine colors. Mike

Me too.Its funny. We will work on it. 53.gif I can see yours. 53.gif

Gina, your burro looks squished, but its there. The ol boler looks ok in my view, but I'd like to make sure it survived ok.

Mike -- good work on the site -- its starting to look normal again.
Chester Taje
Looks good to me Lance.
Gina D.
But.. But.. I switched from the Burro to Snoopy. Do you see the Easter Beagle? Or is it my trailer?
Mary F
I see the Beaster Eagle. 53.gif
jdtrotter
They see the Burro? Easter Beagle is loud and clear???

Glad to see you all here. Just had to update my avatar.

Keep up the good work, Michael. cheers.gif

I see that most of our members/profile photos have vanished also. h49.gif Mike

If anyone knows their avatar is not displaying...he/she might want to check the Base Gallery to see if it's there...then just relink in "My Controls."
Steve DeWeese
Wouldn't you know. My computer crashed about a month ago and I lost the duck hostage.
