I installed a set of track lights converted to work with led bulbs.
The bulbs replace an MR16 lamp, and are 12 volt.
I had to pull the mini transformer(the fixture was originally 120V) out of the track light head, and in it's place I wired an on/off switch.

I used a piece of track that was left over from a reno job, and cut it to fit.
It takes patience to cut the track and not screw anything up, but still and all, it only took me about 3 hours to do the job.

this is the other end, the track is mounted under the rear shelf, behind the valence.
It's not a dust ruffle, just a valence

here's what you see of the fixture:

and here's what you see with the light on.

These are twelve led bulbs, I think 24 led would be better for most lighting.

Joe,
Looks real nice!
Do you think the lamps could work if wired directly without the track? I was thinking of replacements for the existing lights for my side dinette. It seems as if a lamp could be mounted on a nice piece of wood to cover the current location.
Where did you purchase the fixtures and lamps?
Thanks for the inspiration, I've been contemplating lamp replacements for some time. The concern has been with sufficient light output for reading. Originally thought of using flourescent, but a smaller fixture would be much more attractive.

I got the fixtures at a yard sale, $3.00 each, I bought the bulbs from these guys. they also have many other types of led bulbs including ones that fit into standard rv light fixtures (the 4" square type)

any fixture that takes an mr16 bulb can be used. If it was 120 volt plug in, you will have to remove the transformer if it had one.

Cool, Joe! Thanks for sharing. I have been dreaming about doing this very same thing, further down the road. Glad to know that it works.

I think Gina D. is the official "dust ruffle judge"

Gina, what do you think? Valance or dust ruffle? l31.gif

Either way...love the look!
