Full Version: Overhead Cargo Space

I have gone through most,if not all the current discussions to see if anyone has any plans,thoughts or ruminations on the addition of overhead cargo spaces in fibreglass trailers and have been unable to find anything.With that thought in mind I know many of the units now come with these front and/or back storage areas but was interested in knowing if anyone has seen plans/schematics for constructing/purchasing these articles(somewhat like the addition of screen doors in another posting).I would be quite interested in anyones experience in construction/purchase recognizing that strength and weight are key considerations.Thanks for all the continuing great ideas to all!
Rob, I'm sure Scamp and Casita would sell you an overhead fiberglass cabinet ... problem is, would they match the contour of your Boler? You might have to cut and shape a little, depending on how it fit.
The cabinets are held up in place by pop rivets ... which would be pretty simple to add to any trailer.
Would also think you could build a wooden overhead cabinet ... making contoured wooden sides, floor and face plate, complete with hinged door ... but your carpenter skills would have to be a lot stronger than mine! Your wooden overhead cabinet could be held into place with some carefully placed little angle-irons, attached to the wooden frame, and pop riveted through the fiberglass trailer shell.
The Casita rear cabinet, for example, extends all the way across the back of the top of the trailer. You can store a lot of stuff, provided you can build it.
I'd probably go the wood route ... keep us posted on your progress!

We have a 75 Trillium and it has the overhead shelves front and back. They are screwed into the wooden frames that surrounds the windows. There is also a bolt that goes into the shelf and into the closet that helps hold the outer edge. Same on the upper kitchen cabinet.
On the Trilliums it would be very simple to add shelves without riveting through the body. Don't have a clue about other makes of trailers though.
I know there are some people on Bolerama who have built them for both Boler and Trilliums.

Trillium 5500 storage
all of my upper storage is framed in aluminum on the bottom and then a thin shelf is dropped in.
