Hi Phil: I'm in the process of installing a VE-500 drop down TV myself in our 13' Scamp and there is a post in the "Chat" section under Televisions about ours. I explained here about our antenna systems but was wondering what you are using? Will have pictures of this and other mods very shortly. Many of the mods you have done, I have done also and they really add to "CREATURE COMFORT"

Hip hip hurrah....let's hear for a 16' Spirit Deluxe

Okay, so I'm a little biased because I love my '89 16 ft Casita Spirit Deluxe so much. We all know that if I had a Boler or Surfside or Scamp or Bigfoot or Trillium or Burro or U-Haul or any other little fiberglass wonder, I'd feel the same way. There's something they put in that fiberglass, I tell ya!;)

I've been debating whether to order a 16' or 17',
with everyone telling me I'd be much happeir with
the larger Casita...but I'm only 5'5", so I want
something manageable for me.

I called the Casita factory this week and was told that
8 out 10 Casitas ordered were 17', I'm still leaning to
the 16' Spirit Deluxe and I'm hoping to see one in
person soon.

I learned this week that the Spirit Deluxe has more
stowage space than the Liberty Deluxe, I think Phil M.
told me that.

Those are some great mods that have me thinking..........;)

Tom, FWIW, I was actually planning on purchasing a new unit before I bought my used one. Since I don't live that far from Rice, I made several trips over there both before and after I purchased my '89. There are things that I like about both of them. However, if you will be traveling alone, then I can see no reason why a 16' would not work just as well. I went back and forth stepping in and out of a 16' Spirit Deluxe and a 17' Spirit Deluxe (they had both in the showroom) and I couldn't tell much difference in space. I liked the door on the 17' and the fact that it has a screen door. But the main space difference I could see was the bed was more the size of a standard full rather than a smaller version (6 inches wider, but not longer) and there was more heigth inside. The heigth is not an issue for me but might be for some.

I personally like the side dinette. I keep the back one made up into a bed all the time and the side as a dinette. It's all one or two people need. Some prefer the Liberty because they have a larger bed. That is also a consideration.

If you call Casita, they probably can refer you to people in your area who would show you the units you are considering. I hope you can look at a Spirit and a Liberty side by side. That would go a long way in helping you make your decision.

durability of these fiberglass rigs. If you bought a stick
built TT, you wouldn't be so proud of your rig today.

Charles- I simply used a 1" PVC ell and a 2 foot length of pipe to do the ell curtain. bake the pipe for a few minutes in the oven at 250, bend to a CasitaCurve....and serve!!!!

Nevin- The TV is hooked to the factory-installed TV antenna. Alot of eggers have upgraded to the 'delta' directional antenna for improved performance. The AM/FM/CD uses a chaepie car whip which is tucked inside the crack at the rear of the cabinet out of sight. Our fiberglass shells are RF transparent.

Tom- On fulltiming, consider the fridge space- the 1.9 cf unit in the 16's is really small. You will get over twice the volume out of a 4 cf fridge in the 17's not to mention a functional freezer. The other drawback on a 16 is the flimsy lockset on the door...one of my very few complaints with the 16.

Jana- I bought my Casita used on Pearl Harbor day, Dec 7th last year. It (like all great works of art) has been a 'work in progress' since. But I can't leave anything alone...you oughtta see my ducati- it has been modded so much that I couldn't sell or trade if I wanted to(which I DONT)!!!!!

Thanks for the reminder about the fridge. That is a good point. I've heard some complain that it took up too much room, but I do not know that first hand. Even though it would be nice to have the larger one, I do like having that extra cabinet underneath. Lots of 'stuff' can go in there.

Also appreciate the shower curtain rod. I had seen pictures before, and pretty much figured out how it was done except for the part you didn't show. :o So...how is it attached to the other wall?

I believe Suz has hit the nail on the head.
They DO put something in that fiberglass,some kind of drug or something. It lulls you into loving it.

Yes, in a 17’ Casita, the aisle is 6” narrower due to the larger frig. Like everything else in life there’s trade offs. I believe Don in
Oak City mentioned this in a previous post.

I love everyone of your mods Phill M. EXCEPT that black box in the picture at the top of page 3, what is it?

That is an old but quality ADS car speaker I had laying around for years. It is wired to the inside stereo with a bypass switch.

I really got raked over the coals on CasitaClub for that one- of course you must use good judgment in noise discipline at CG's, but it's great for my boondocks and rallies!!

BTW- Your rig is way classy- I love it!!!

Chester- The truck is rednecked out with 4" lift, offroad suspension and shocks, plus add-a-leafs. It only drops about 1.5" when hooking up and rides nice and level....even with 350 lbs of Ducati in the back.
