Earlier this year we installed a remote controlled "Holmes" twin window type fan in the roof vent/escape hatch of our Scamp. It is and exact fit but does require some minor modification for mounting and a short extension for the crank handle that opens and closes the hatch. This unit moves plenty of air either intake or exhaust at three different speeds. It can also be programmed for one fan on intake and the other on exhaust. As the fan does not take up all the longitidinal space in the hatch opening, a translucent plastic panel fills the remaining opening.. 110VAC is supplied from a socket mounted in the wardrobe closet. The remote controlled Holmes fan is the most expensive one in the twin fan models at about $50 but other versions are available at a lower cost

Nevin, The fan/vent looks very nice. I didn't even know they came with two fans, but what do you do if you need to escape?

I'm not quite sure why Scamp Evelands put the so called escape hatch in the first place. (Might be some kind of RV Safety Code?)1st, the opening is only about 22"x22", a little tight for some folks to wiggle thru. 2nd, it's 6' above floor level and after you've found the cover and screen release trigger in the dark and tried to lift your 200# body up there and wiggle out, the soles of your tooties will be nicely roasted. For me, the easiest way out in any emergency is out the door with a couple of good kicks and shoulder blocks or next best out the front or rear plexiglas windows. A good push will dislodge the window from the gasket and out you go, so for me I opt for cool fresh air with the fan. Here's a pic of our Scamp behind her 90HP tow vehicle. Enjoy.

Nevin, this summer on Vancouver Is, BC, I met several families with older Bolers who wished they had the escape hatch instead of the standard size. And the extra ventilation is not bad either. I would guess it is to meet some code; my old Jayco had a drop-out window instead of a hatch. As you say, with the table down, it is a climb.

I looked around to see the availability of replacement covers and quickly discovered they are not common, so I ordered a spare from Scamp and have it in my truck just in case (I had had a difficult time finding a spare very standard one on a previous trailer when I encountered on of Charle's Jumping Trees -- altho not so vicious a tree as the one in the latest Harry Potter....).:o
