After seeing Nevin Lescher's tasty mods, and his disc heater in particular, I decided to install a cube heater in the dinette bulkhead on my 16' Casita. This seemed the perfect space as it is oriented cor rectly and does not have any claearance issues- and I won't be tripping over it constantly either.

The heater is wedged between the 2x2 sill and the top of the dinette seat with wood blocks and 1/4'' rubber. A bead of duct seal keeps the cold out and trims the cut also.

Man, Phil, that looks like the perfect place for it. I'll be anxious to hear how it works.

I'll bet it's throwing a tiny bit of heat into the compartment behind it, helping prevent condensation and freezing. Nice idea and execution!

It's a good daytime solution, but will not use at nite(this is getting OLD) or pull out the auxiliary cube. Now if I can come up with a good alternative for boondocking heat.............

As it stands I simply plug and unplug to use this heater, with controls on back set at high. I planned on hardwiring the power thru a rocker switch to free up the outlet space.....could I use a rheostat for house lights(rotary dial) to modulate heat or would this damage the unit??

Hopefully Morgan or another electrical whiz will answer your rheostat question ...

But since you've cut the hole to fit ... if I were you, I'd pick up a spare heater, same make/model/size ... to ease the inevitable replacement of the current cube heater.

I doubt that a lighting controller is beefy enuf to handle the heater; they are for 0.1-0.3 KW than 1.5KW. Prolly find a suitable controller in Grainer catalog.

Most of the heaters I’ve seen draw fresh air in from the back, heat it, and then blow out the front. My question is, does this heater take front air and blow back out to the front? ...Or is it taking cabinet air and blowing out to the front?

this unit pulls air out of the cabinet area from the rear. It is of moderate temp back there- not much cooler than the cabin space. If I need i can open a galley cabinet to equalize and perhaps increase the efficency of the heater.

Switch with guards for the heater..........

I need 120V wiring advice. My plan is to split the cord on the heater (wide spade neutral, narrow hot) and run them to the side terminals on the galley outlet (white neutral, black hot) with the switch of course in line on the hot run. Is this correct or am I going to fry my trusty camper?????? Do I need a ground to frame?? Any advice or suggestions from electricians welcome.

Those are slick switch guards. how inventive can you get. Wish my Tom would help like that.
