window tint for summer.

Some scraps left over from the carpet job make a nice bath mat- they are glued to a piece of 1/8" neoprene.

This is a prototype battery monitor (no affiliation)that a developer sent me for a road test- it reads voltage, per cent charge, and keeps track of low cycles. An LED will blink when the battery hits 55% capacity letting you know that it's ready for a charge. If the voltage drops below 50%, (low cycle) the LED remains on and the cycle entered into memory. It pulls only 28mA so I cut the plug off and hardwired it straight to the hot side of the battery. Now I can disconect the battery when hooked to shore power (always at home), run off the converter and let the battery rest. When I need a charge just close the disconnect and the converter will fill up the tank.

no more wobbly table. Casita sent me the clips used on the TV shelf. Seems to me that these should have been there to start with!

Another recycle job. The large table left over from the bedboard project was trimmed down to make a 3 inch oversized small dinette table. The extra length makes quite a difference.

There was room for some big cup holders from a surplus yard.

Come on Phill
I want to go out camping. We all can't keep up with all these mods.

Impressive Phil! Everything looks so nice and is so functional in your trailer. I really like the battery level indicator, too.

Thanks Nancy- it's fun to come up with cheap ideas for raw materials on hand. Now there is a considerable piece of big table left over plus the original 2x2 small dinette table. They might be cut to make a permanent counter for the galley (to replace the folder shown) and maybe a slide out coffee table from under the bed.

I sure am looking forward to the rally and seeing a Scamp 5th wheel up close......leery of the old two-foot-itis syndrome though:o

Aha! The hole for access to the electrical plug in the folding counter top appears to be off center!

See, see? That's why I leave my trailers stock ... factory fresh. I mean, I know all of you admire and are jealous of all Phil's wonderful modifications ... but an off-center electrical plug access hole?

Besides, doing all those modifications seem like work ... at least to me. ;)

(And Phil, you know I'm joking. You set the high-water mark for modifications!)

(If you get twofootitus, just figure out a way to modify your existing rig, adding two feet off the front or back. I have faith in you!)

Phil will be the first to add a two foot slide-out to his small, molded fiberglass travel trailer.

Seriously, with all of the amazing work some of our members accomplish, this idea is not far-fetched...

In fact, Janifer might beat Phil to it!

Hey, I might even put a trunk on mine! It'd look like the rear engine comparment for the old VW bus.

Seriously: I took the spare tire off the back and I leave the back dinette made up like a bed all the time, so I am thinking about installing a rear access door and have a closed in space under the bed. Although the door would be permanent, the 'trunk' could be removed if I ever wanted to use the four person dinette.

Hey Suz,
I have a couple spare hatches if you ever need one ;)
Legacy Posts
Cool!

On second thought, I think I need a miniature rear hatch.

Hey Suz,
How about something like this!

Now there's a thought. Those new hybrid TTs don't have anything on the VW.

I was thinking of something like this modified for my door. So that I could have a front room, rather than a back room.

New Front Room

Suz,

Are you thinking of the tent as an entryway to the Casita? Might work if you come up with a seal connecting the tent, doorway and threshold -- elsewise, bug city.

If decide to go with the rear hatch thought, here is another vendor.

Benita,

Actually, I won't have a large enough opening out of the back. Originally, I gave a lot of consideration about adapting the SUV tent to the door opening. It should be quite easy and would be a great little ante room.

I've done a lot of research on many different awnings and think that I have just about come up with one that will suit my purposes. There is also a possibility that I could use an add-a-room with it. Something that I didn't think was possible before.

Still working on it, but should know soon.

Oh, foot I thought you were talking about those little doors to get into the storage part. (not that these *tent thingies* aren't cute) I need two doors, no taller than 11 inches. :wak e-bay had some big enough for a saint bernard. I want a toy poodle size. Don't they sell these new somewhere?

Phil, won't your carpet get wet when you take a shower?

The rest of my table scraps are used up now....the little dinette table was cut down to a 16"x20" mini table. The hub was mounted off center (like me) so the table can be rotated for diferent uses. The floor socket came from the local RV shop and was easily holesawed into the floor. This is the day table/large nite stand mode.

Here is food prep mode. with the top twisted it will clear the drawer. Note the larger radiused galley shelf by the stove cut from big table scraps. I used the old shelf for a drawer counter.

This is rotated to dinette/computer desk mode.

The table is stored under the bedboard and can be partially slid out to offer a small nite stand or dinette end table.

These metal shelf channels are stick-taped to the bedboard and rubber lined to make a snug friction fit. The battery disconnect is wired in line to the battery hot lead from the converter.

Yes!! Perhaps a small 13 ft guest chalet to go with your 17???

pix please.........
boys toys!!!!! oh boy!!!!

here is the enlarged folding galley shelf left over from a corner of the big table. I shot this pic straight on so Charles could see I ten-ringed the outlet hole:o :o

Jana- the carpet is glued to a rubber backing so I set it in front of the door for a bath mat when showering.....and throw it back in after squeegee- ing the bath.

Hi Phill
This is what I got to work with. The fun begins.

Ok Phil. What do I do.Make it a sleeping only unit or a unit for two with permanent bed and table at opposite end.
Legacy Posts
My opinion? well........Is it a 13 footer??

back end: I see a U-shaped dinette/bed with a just small removable center section at the footwell required for conversion. Upholster it plush and you dont need a mattress. A one-post table will be easy to stash.

At the front, a 2 seat couch with removable back that might accomodate a smaller sleeper. Full length stand up closet in the front corner by the stove. Another thought- take out the front bench and build side-facing single seats at a 2-person dinette. Maybe a porta-potty under the seat by the stove like Ken showed us earlier or is that a bath beside the door???

Very astute Janifer! That's a good looking unit, too.

Phil >> ten ringed the hole

My apologies, Phil. I should've figured you measured twice and (hole)cut once.

And I also should have figured that if the hole was off-center, you'd buy another piece of wood and try again ... otherwise it would keep you up at night! :)

No apologies needed Charles.....I know you are ribbing me over my compulsiveness. If I am going to post this stuff I have to be willing to take the heat!!!!! Besides, my piddling pales in comparison to the full-on restoration jobs that some of our associates are performing.

Didja see the Libertyesque mini-table I came up with???? That one is a benchmark. Slideouts may be a stretch, but don't be suprised if you see a tandem axle Casita sometime.:r
