More updates on 13 Ft Boler.

Boler stripped down for rebuild.Last photo is my used parts stock pile.Got this stuff from old damaged Boler next door to me.

With that damage, it would be about as easy to go ahead and put on a complete new A frame. That way you could make it extra long so you could have a nice big storage box on it. Or maybe an extra battery or two. It would handle better with a longer A frame too.

Good luck on your project.

Hi Ron
I am looking at that frame situation now. These Boler frames are really thin.On my 17ft its much stronger.

With all the time you spend in this forum, your new project, your job, have plan to keep a few minutes to sleep :zz from time to time...? :r

Hi Chester,
I couldn't really tell from the pictures what kind of frame damage you have. I intend to jack up the trillium and look for cracked weld joints. Is there something else I should look for? Could you see your frame damage before you took the boler off? I saw on another web site there was a recall of trillium frames including my year so it's on my list. Windows first. Thanks for any pointers.

Hi Maggie
The frame is broken on both sides of the "A" frame itself.Someone had done a patch job,but not very good. Also there are a few cracks in and around where axil joins to frame.

Hi Guys
This Boler had about 12 bolts holding it down.I took boler off of frame by myself using a small hyd jack.I just kept blocking it up till I had clearence to pull frame out backwards.Took about 1 hr after bolts were un done.

Ches, you are SO efficient! Hmmm, :chin I should ship you up to Red Deer for a week to help with mine. Then I could actually get some camping in this year!

Your improved frame looks great!

Holy smokes!
Ches rips out the old frame and slams in a new one faster than a speeding bullet.
I would still be thinking about doing it!

Nice job Ches.

Hi Lainey
Don't be afraid to do something.,These are very easy to work on.Just look stop and think and you will be ok.Only rules I follow is not to put any holes in unit if I don't have to and if not sure ask lots of questions. If you go through all the old posts you will see some amazing mods that folks have done.

On our Trillium we found one of the four "U" bolts that hold the body of the trailer to the frame was missing. The other three were very rusted, and were also replaced. The frame itself was okay.

Nice work Chest--I just noticed you live in Hosmer BC--did you get
the Chief and His Daughter from Hosmer Mountain to help.
We used to live in the Crowsnest Pass (Gas Plant) and traveled that area a lot. So pretty and so much history. There is a small road that
follows the Frank Slide, cannot see from highway. We lived in the last house at the base by the lake at bottom of the Slide. Could hear
rocks fall from the mountain and splash into the water. Rather un nerving until you got used to it. Lots of neat fossils in that rock pile
close to the base and away from the highway.
Wonderful place to ride horses, many old mines in area, and scenery
is great. Fernie has changed so much now with the ski hill etc.
Have fun with your new project.

Hi Ches,

Your project has an uncany resemblance to mine...right down to the color. My trailer is currently on blocks with the frame out for repairs. I have the same damage, the front members are 1.5" X 3" square tubing that was pressed to make the A at the front of the trailer. My frame has cracked at these two bend points. Did you patch yours or put in new steel? Also I was wondering if you have any photos of what is behind the fridge in your trailer? I have completely gutted mine and there are some brutal modifications behind the ice box to pipe in heat through some stove pipe??? I now it sounds crazy but that is what it looks like it was set up for. I want to return it back to original but being that this is my first Boler I have no idea what it is supposed to look like.

Thank you

Hi Mark
As Requested.

As you can see my top was cut out so I will have to fix it up.Nothing in behind where icebox was.

The frame I put in was totally rebuilt It was all boxed.
Hope this helps.

Mark
Is this what your seeing in your Boler. If so it is from a heater which was installed at one time.

Thanks for the phots Ches,

The best I can describe my situation is that the trailer originally had a fridge that must have quite working and they ripped the guts out of the fridge converting it to an icebox. Behind the fridge are two vents. the upper one is fixed while the lower one is hinged. Someone cut a roundhole the size of a stove pipe through both vents so they could pump heat from the outside into a home made metal box behind the icebox. Wierd!

Did you ever replace your hinges? If so what did you replace them with?

Again, Thanks for the help,
Mark

Hi
No I have not replaced my hinges YET.My 17ft Boler is ok,but my 13ftBoler may require changing.I have seen photos of Scamp hinges which will work also Casta hinges.I will go to casita hinges if I have to change.

I am doing exactly the same to my 14 surfside tt. Rebuilt the frame like yours and working on interior. I have had a lot of satisfaction so far, by throwing out the "rulebook" and building what I want.
If there is a Lordco parts store near you they can supply you parts from Western Marine and many of the fittings that I have used are marine all stailess and built for rough service (like door hinges)
I put in a skylight and a boat hatch in the roof and it make the tt feel twice the size. I have a fridge and lpg heater I am not needing if it will work for you.

I gotta say, you went _way_ further than I did and people were accusing me of going overboard in the restoration of our 1973. My kudos to you.

Chester - I have the icebox that I took out of my 13 Scamp. It is in good shape, and I am planning to sell it -- just haven't gotten around to it. PM me if you are interested.

This will probably go up on eBay shortly, as Ches doesn't need it. I'll post in Items For Sale when it does. Jana, I'll wait to hear from you.

Hi All
Working with Fiberglass doing repair work.I find it easy and not hard at all.

Door hinge holes filled in and door going to be rehung.

I looked at a Airstream today and was impressed with their one hinge setup.I might try that.Sagging doors are a real problem.

....we'll be sure to stop by!

Actually, we are planning a trip out to the coast, provided I can get done before the beginning of August. (BC's #3 highway is one of my fav's, but I'm not sure it's the best way to go to the coast for my first time out towing - pretty challenging road)

Hinge Holes in door and Boler out of alignment.Removed door and filled in holes and reset door.100% improvement over what it was.Top photo shows bottom of door hinge holes way out of line. The bottom photo shows door reset .I sanded the top right corner and right side so it would fit better.Waiting for new door lock to arrive.
