Our screen door is finished. We found that piano hinges gave so much strength it was possible to just use the screen frame itself as the door. It weighs next to nothing. It has not been field tested, but so far so good. OK Let's see how the photos do:

Maggie O.,

I'll give you more shower details if you give me more screen door construction details

I would be happy to tell you all about screen door construction. I am an expert now thanks to Nancy D. She was kind enough to email beautiful diagrams. The only thing I did differently is skip the whole wooden door frame. We made two screens from that do it yourself stuff at Lowes and screwed the piano hinges right into the frame. If you want I might be able to send Nancy's instructions to you, if she doesn't mind.

Go ahead and send them Maggie.

Dear Maggie O.,

My thanks to you and Nancy D.

I like the simple effective approach you have taken. No doubt I will do something similar.

Have you decided on having a external shower yet?

Hi Tom,

I love your shower idea. We have a few too many irons in the fire to tackle anything else right now. Thank you for satisfying my curiousity. The infos been filed for future dreaming.

Princess Auto has screening available in their surplus here for $1.00 per foot (36" wide), is this a good price?

Hi everyone. I was reading through the posts regarding the screen door and saw the post regarding an outdoor shower. I would love to hear more about that. I have been admiring one on the Prairie Bolerama site - Brad and Jen's. Sounds like a great idea.

TIA.:cheers

Maggie, would you be willing to post your plans for the screen door for everyone?? It looks like you did a GREAT job. We have a screen now, but if we ever wanted to replace it, (we have big dogs, and they have a thing about squirrels. so far so good) I would love to have the plans handy. It looks great.

Hi,
This kind of screen door is really easy to make. You just buy do it yourself screen framing, two sets of plastic corners, screen, & spline. We bought four 30inch piano hinges. We made sure the metal screw plate on the hinges was the same width as the screen frame. We counted the screw holes and got enough tiny screws to attach the hinges. The screws that came with the hinges were too long, and would have gone right thru the screen framing. We made two long narrow doors. We used aluminum screen since we just happened to have it. It is nice and strong, but it is rather sharp around the edges. Our door is about 64 inches. Since there is only 60 inches of hinge per door there is a space in the middle. This is where we attatched a leather handle, and a knob on the inside. We put a strap near the bottom to pull it snug against the door frame. We noticed the door sort of binds against the floor and thought, "works for us". (The last photo shows the door does not shut square.) We put a small piece of velcro at the top to keep it closed. We may add a little strap at the top to really pull it into the velcro, but it works without it. I think if we wanted to use this door in serious mosquito country we'd probably have to put something along the inside top. We built a wooden door frame to attatch these doors to which is screwed onto the fiberglass. We are not carpenters so I'll leave tips for doing that part to the experts. That's it.

I'm sorry they were a problem to upload (we're working on improving our system for that) but they're worth your efforts!

Okay, for you, two cheers (waves):

Hi: just checked into this site, Think that I will be useing it some. We have a 13 ft trail Mite. Havent seen any on the web. It is a 1973 It has been over the hill and well used. The people we got it from took it to Bonzi shows. Had started redoing it when he passed away. Needs everything but new tires and apoulstry. Mainly I was wondering where to get replacement windows. My Back and front are Plastic. Faye

Hi, Faye! Welcome to the Molded Fiberglass RV Travel Trailer Owners' Group. :wave

I don't know anything about the Trail Mite trailers. Can you describe yours, or, better yet, do you have a picture?
