I got my set of 12" ccf from The Web Cats for $6.75+$4.50 shipping. They are great. Only problem was in the 100 o weather the adhesive on the velcro got gooey and failed.

I received my two pairs of CCFT lamps fro All Electronics yesterday.

I hooked one pair up to a 12 volt battery this morning and measured the voltage and current.

12.8 VDC
0.73 amps

That means they consume 9.344 watts. If my memory is correct, the incandescent lamps in the fixtures Casita uses draw 1.5 amps. One pair of these CCFTs use half the current and the light appears to be at least twice as bright (I have no way of measuring the light output).

I'll try the CCFTs in the Casita when it cools down some here (it got up to 100.6º yesterday). I'll try them first just mounted to the fibeglass bottom of the overhead cabinet and see if they provide lighting comfortable for reading. I wish I had old 12" flourescent fixtures like Mike used, the diffuser would help and the installation would look better.

Thanks to all of you for the information I used to buy these. They look like winners for an old boondocker who likes to get up early to read and work crosswords. bowdown.gif

Just an update; the above post was last June and it applied to the Dual 12" CCFT kit by Logisys.

I recently purchased 2 Dual 4" CCFT kits by Logisys. They're packaged in the same box as the 12". The specifications on the box are for the 12". I measured the 12VDC current for draw the 4" pair using the same setup.

12.8 VDC
0.33 amps

That translates to 4.224 watts consumed by the 4" pair.

Anyone considering the 4" CCFTs should understand that the specifications on the box which is copied by the vendors are incorrect. The brightness (I'm assuming they really mean luminance) is specified as 28,000 to 30,000 cd/m**2. Don't expect that output from the 4" tubes. I'd guess about 1/3 of that luminance.

How can you tell, Morgan? Do you have a calibrated eyebone?

It's a SWAG, Gina. roflol.gif

The 4" tubes are 1/3 the length of the 12". 61.gif

Just adding a little on my project; I'll create a new thread showing the whole project off later.

Since no one sells CCFL + LED light fixures, I' making my own vacu-formed (sometimes called blow-formed) CCFL/LED light fixtures.

This is the form for my new lights with its two 12" CCFL lights and a central 36 LED lamp module set in place. The white plastic fixture shells I'll be vacu-forming around these will be 27-3/4" long x 3" deep x 7/8" tall and will have two slider switches set into the little carved out sections in the front lip for on/off and CCFL/LED mode, and there'll be a clear white diffuser on top of the bulb compartment to help spread the light. The ballast/inverter box does not fit inside my fixture; I decided I'd mount those inside the cabinets my fixtures attach to so I could keep the profile low and clean.

I still have to finish making the vacu-form jigging and setup, but am most of the way done with that. Perhaps I'll have fixtures next weekend! Then I'll be able to show the whole lot off at Bandon! 31.gif

Mike, We have a compact II and we were wondering were in your Compact did you use the lights? We would love to replace our 12v lights as they are pretty dim. The pictures of others who have changed theirs look great. dance.gif

I put a pair at the kitchen one vertical on the back wall and one on the kitchen ceiling with the wires going into the old dome light and using the switch in it for power, removed the old bulb. At the other end of trailer I had mounted a flouresant daul lamp fixture before and pulled the guts out of it and mounted the ccfl in it. I ran power wires to the dome dome light on wall by feeding them under the diamond pillow covering on the ceiling. Both ends of trailer have plenty of light.

I know this post is over a year old, but I was wondering if you did change your lights out and if so do you still have your old ones? I am in search of 1 more of these... http://www.fiberglassrv.com/board/index.php?showtopic=30831

Thanks in advance.
