I have been reading the different awing posts and finally got up the nerve to share mine. It is an old projection screen like some of us watched movies on in school classrooms. If you will remember, the screen is spring loaded. I am just using the actual screen material with the white side up. No poles in the way if you use wall mount flag pole holders to side of camper or find something similar in rubber like I did.

Too easy! Take the tube part with the screen in it off the stand. Save the tripod stand for hanging a lamp on while camping. I mounted mine on the lip above the door using existing piece of aluminum. (I am sure there are many other options) Drilled holes in aluminum, then matched them in the lower lip of the metal tube of the screen. I used a washer, bolt, nut through the hole in lip tightening the not on the bolt. This left a good 1” of the bolt to slip through the L-brackets I mounted on the aluminum piece above door. I secured tune to this with wing nuts for easy removal. Drill a hole in each end of the metal bar that has the handle you open the screen with. Get two adjustable tent poles with the point on the ends and stick in the holes you just drilled. Adjust the poles to the length you like, hold up halfway on the side of your egg. Mark the spot to install flagpole holders and you are done. I did make a center bar using a piece of old tent pole for stability.

Cost: projector screen at junk store $3
nuts, bolts, washers & wing nuts aprox $2
adjustable tent poles(I got from old tent) can buy at some Walmarts Guess $20
three L-brackets $3
two flag pole brackets $12

I sure do enjoy mine.

This is my awning wheel to keep from tearing awning when you open the door. It is a caster from an old kitchen cart mounted to the edge of the door.

Using the projector screens as awnings seemed to be popular about 4 years ago north of the border but seems to have stopped....wonder why the reason was.....maybe the material that the screens are made of didn`t stand up to the UV......hopefully someone that was using this system will come on and tell how well it held up to the elements.. ..Benny

Benny I have been using mine for 4 years with no problem on the material or works. I keep waiting for the material to go so I can stich some "real" awning material to where it starts on the spring and attach to the pull bar.

Nice to hear that it has stood up well for you......I never did try it myself although I have a spare screen to try it out....found that I only used my regular awning maybe 3 times in 4 years so kinda just have all on hold, although it seems like a good system to go with....pricewise for sure! hopefully it`ll last another 4 years for you, at least....Benny

This is an AMAZING, INVENTIVE and CREATIVE project! I love it, thank you for sharing! I have 2 of these screens in the basement that I bought years ago for "something" - now I know what that "something" is! Yeah!
