Yes, at 45 lbs that InFlame unit is way too heavy for me to want in the Boler, but the more general idea of using gelled alcohol as fuel for an indoor fire might be interesting, for those who really must have flames for a cozy setting.

Anything burning a hydrocarbon fuel (which includes both propane and alcohol) will produce both water vapour and carbon dioxide, and potentially carbon monoxide. I would take "no vent" with a grain of salt... it's really just no directly connected vent.

I'm not a fan of candles, but I'm not sure this is necessarily better; I suppose it would depend on how the gelled alcohol is handled and contained.

By the way, my wife recently mentioned the she heard of a tabletop version of this idea - burning alcohol in some sort of tray full of rocks - so it is apparently a current design trend.

Personally, I would not want to risk the well being of either our trailer or our health by burning any unvented flame . With reference to using alcohol maybe for an outdoors heater or a vented one, we tried that once. Bought a jin dandy unit from Sears, tried it at home, and it produced a lot of heat. Hah ! Those were the good old days when all we had was a tent. The next time out camping at an elevation of 8000 ft. the nights were bone chilly and the heater would not function. Seems that alcohol will not burn at higher elevations. Just thought you folks might like to be aware of that. Don

Old camper furnace, heater and I supposed "fire place".

Turn you stove burner on low and put an upside down flower pot on the pot holders. Warms up the trailer, and I suppose you could call that a "fire place".

Those are pretty cool fires. Pun intended. Probably wouldn't do a whole lot towards keeping a person warm, unless of course, one is easily convinced through hypnosis. A resteraunt near here once had these same style of lights. Fascinating they were. One thing is for sure, they would work at high elevations, even maybe 30,000 ft. All a person would need is an 865 thousand foot extension cord.

Maggi had theirs on the front of their trailer. Another camper came running over to put out the fire. At a short distance, they really look Great.

You just can’t beat toxic smoke, hot on one side cold on the other, singing and all the stuff that goes with a real campfire.

Have you heard Maggi’s “In the Trailer next to Mine” song. It is a real crack up.

There was a young family who attended the Oregon Gathering a couple of years ago (2005?). He was in the process of building a small corner fireplace with chimney in his Scamp 5th Wheel. It was located beside the door where the closet would usually be. Never saw it after it was finished.

I remember this! It was going to burn coal...they were a snow skiing family and thought a coal burner (marine?) would be the ticket for them. Sure would like to have seen it finished.
