Eventually these overhead cabinets will be replaced, but until then I wanted a way to keep them open so Lynne and I can easily get to the stuff inside.

These springs are about three bucks for two springs at Home Depot held in place by very small screw-in eyelets at each end.

To lock the door open you just swing the door up, which pulls the spring straight and locking the door open.

To close the door you just tap the spring with a thumb and it folds over, allowing the door to close.

Edited March 8th because I hate going back and finding syntax errors in my sentences . . .

aplas.gif Great, simple and CHEAP solution to the problem. I've had an overhead door whack me in the head a time or two. Sigh, I only have the overhead cabinets over the galley. Dibbs on yours when you get ready to remove and sell 'em Peter 53.gif

I can't take credit for the idea. I've seen longer, thinner springs on plexiglass "gull wing" doors and windows on light airplanes; I'm just adapting the idea to my trailer.

Lost in the "hack" awhile ago was my posting of a marine hatch spring. A little more expensive, about $10.

okrra.gif I'm glad you brought that up, Steve!
Suz mentioned, in that same old (hacked) topic, her use of drapery hooks to hold things up and/or open.
Click to view attachment She installed one in my Casita for just this purpose, and it works great!
(The drapery hook is stuck into the Casita's ceiling-carpet, in such a way that it catches the door's handle when the door's open.)

54.gif Yeah, yeah. I need to get an action shot so folks can see how it actually works. 300.gif
