I came across these on the Hayes website.

Hayes Generator Box

I really like the generator box but find it a bit pricey for my pocketbook. I've seen various homemade versions on this site. About how much did these cost to fabricate? Add in a labor cost because I'm not going to do this myself.

This is a Hayes alternative that they quit selling. It looks this would be the simplest to fabricate. Three diamond plated plates attached to piano hinges and perhaps some bars and mesh screening at either end.

This Hayes product looks like it would make the most sense. 5 diamond plated plates on piano hinges with a fan mounted on the side for circulation and louvers for exhaust. Also since you get to add a box lid you can lock it. (They are so backordered they won't even give a price quote on this item.)

I can't weld, but can run a rivet gun and assorted other tools. I could see building this box, using diamond plate, some "L" angle aluminum and piano hinges, soffit vents, etc. 53.gif

I've bought diamond plate from these people: Metal Supermarket, cheapest price in Portland (any size/quantity) and are only about 20 blocks for my house (at most). They have a number of stores, check to see if one is in your area. I like buying from them, because they'll do all the straight cuts I need.

Course, by time you get done, it might be just as cheap to go to a Parts & Auto store and buy one shg.gif
