Last night while trying out a new blackberry cobbler recipe I learned a new lesson about dutch oven cooking. Mr. was getting the coals going and heating the butter while I mixed up the batter and berries inside. I had both bowls, full, in my hands as I headed out. As I approached the dutch oven to dump the batter in I suddenly had shooting pains in my feet. I barely got the bowls set down before grabbing my feet. Mr. had set the chimney down after getting some out for the bottom of the oven and then put it back where it should have gone. Little did I know that I would have to walk on coals to get this desert done, but that was what I did. There was enough hot coals that had fallen out of the container to leave a real mark on my bare feet. Now while this doesn't sound like fun, the good thing is we learned to watch out for bare feet before taking this show camping with our grandkids and have one of them discover the hot feet dance.

New rule: No bare feet around the dutch ovens.

It was wonderful, we had the left overs for breakfast. Then we tried another recipe tonight. There's an old saying in Oregon that you have to make cobbler while the blackberries are ripe.
