We are doing a software security upgrade.
As you can see there is lots of formatting that has been lost. This will cause outages from time to time. Please be patient with us.

As you can probably see by now, this was a major software revision upgrade (unlike the previous upgrades that have been relatively minor revisions). We are having some functionality issues that will need attention. Mike and the admin staff are continuing to work through them, but there appear to be more of them than we originally anticipated. So... please continue to bear with us for the next few days as we work to identify and bring these features and functions back up to full functioning status.

Mike,
I know you are working hard on the upgrade. I'm not sure how you are able to find all the glitches, but I've come across one that I thought I should share with you. When I click on "reply", the response window comes up (of course) but it is a gazzillion spaces long. So I just type my entire response in one line. When it is posted, all is well. Just thought I'd mention it.

Thanks Chris, we're noticing a big difference between what members might see using Internet Explorer and those using FireFox. Right now, FireFox is doing a much better job, but we're working fast and furious to fix all the irritating things.

Just an update. As you can see, we took a step back to look at the overall picture. Last night we were fast and furiously trying to do the fixes... and found out it would be best to start over with the Look 'n Feel and to just keep patching. So, although what you're seeing right now is NOT what you are used to seeing, it will be repaired as soon as possible. In the meantime, keep on posting and enjoying yourselves.

We were able to get our “Look N Feel” back, but some Windows IE users have reported problems. So as you can see we went back to the default.
We are working hard to find the conflict. So, you will see the screens change back and forth while we test and track down the pesky errors.
It’s like trying to rebuild an engine while the car is in a race. Pit stops just don’t give enough time.
We have about a dozen Moderators with all sorts of computers and browsers who are giving me feed back, so we probably are seeing what you see plus more as the functionality screens some times break.
I appreciate all your patience and understanding.

I don't envy you this job. Another board I follow regularly went through a similar upgrade - and gave up in favor of a "major redesign at a future date". Basically - customizing this stuff can byte you in the end when an upgrade breaks the customizations.
Anyway - don't worry, I doubt you'll loose any posters for something as silly as "formatting".
Thanks for the hard work!

I have created three versions of SKINS for now. The Default will work for everyone (but it does not have our "look & feel"). The 2.2.0-Oct07 will work for Windows users with IE. And the 2.2.0-Mac07 will work with Macs.
So, while we are sorting out this stuff, feel free to try another version if you are having trouble.
You will find the pull down options near the bottom left next to the RSS button.

Hi Mike
Glad to be back on. I didn't do anything here but it seems to be working OK now. I don't know what the term skin means that's a new term for me. The default shown in the corner has changed though.
Hope this makes sense to you Thanks for your response I wouldn't have contacted you that wat but had no other alternative. Sounds like you're having fun with this. Like RED GREEN says "Hang in there we're pullin' for ya. We're all in this together"

Glad you’re back on.
I changed the primary skin to the default - IPB 2.2.0 Default.
Everyone can now pick the SKIN (Look & Feel) they want to use. The SKIN pull down menu is found in the lower left, between the RSS logo button, and the language pull down menu.
There are three choices:
- IPB 2.2.0 Default
- 2.2.0-Oct07
- 2.2.0-Mac07
Try the different ones and see which one works best for you.
I will continue to work on repairing all the software conflicts.

I have a small glitch that only happens with this site. When finished reading a thread I can't get back to the titles page without hitting the back button REREATEDLY. As in 4-5 times. This does not happen elsewhere but only on this site, so is not at this end

thanks for the heads up about yesterday Mike. The other issue remains the same, when we go to a page in the site, open a message, read it then try to back out, we often CAN'T!! I have found that sometimes scrowling down to the very bottom of the back then clicking back will 'sometimes' get me out faster. Usually though I/we need to press the back button 4, 5, 6 or sometimes MORE times before it activates. At first I thought it was either my k-board or 'puter actin up, LOL!!!
.......just a heads up Mike I tried 7 times to get out of this page after typing my ramblings....LOL

Hi Guys,
You've probably already heard about most of these glitches - but I thought I'd report in, just in case. I have IE 6, Windows XP
- Site doesn't remember me when I go into the Forums.
- Even after I log in, intermittently (but mostly), I get an error message that I'm not logged in when I try to 'Add a Reply'. Also, sometimes when I click on 'View New Posts' , I'll get the error message that I'm not logged in.
- Like others, the browser 'Back' button isn't working for me.
Good luck!

Instead of clicking on the browser back button, does it work if you click on the site's navigation bar??? See attached image.

I'm using the defasult right now and Donna, when I click the sites navigation bar, it does get me back/out in one shot (one button click).
....and right now, I just tried the mac version and could not reply at all (duuh, wonder W H Y??? LOL).
Also still needed to use the sites nav. bar to get back here.
Switching back to default mode....wonder WHAT this button .spoiler. does, LOL

Ok - I had been using the IPB2.2.0 Default. I changed to the 07 version and everything 'seems' OK (of course it does; everyone knows that the minute someone is looking, all software problems disappear).
I can go 'back' using the navigation bread crumbs.
I tried replying to posts and clicking on 'View new posts' and the system didn't boot me out.
I closed my browser and then came back - and the system remembered me.
So, I'm going to my room now (don't send the 'flying monkeys' Gina).

The back button is still not working for me although if I click a whole bunch of times real fast I can get it to go backwards.
And, just for fun, the view new posts button is working eratically. Sometimes I'll see new posts at the forum root page, click the view new posts url and get the "no new posts" message.

Somewhere, in the past week or so, Webguy-Mike posted that these incompatibility issues will be addressed by his programmer, once

Software Update CompleteOur website now totally Validates. This means it is compliant with the current web standards. Also, there are so many Browsers out there that are being given away for FREE, there is no way to make a website with this complexity work on all browsers.
The key is to use a Browser that complies with the current standards of writing web site code. You would think the big name companies would be the most compliant, but that is not the case. Big companies want to write their own rules and force everyone else to comply with them. They think this will help them maintain market share. The
World Internet Consortium has decided to set the standards.
I have hired programmers from three companies in addition to my work to try to resolve all the issues. The last one I hired is in Austrailia and is considered the master. He did in fact fix the website software to totally test 100% compliant.
The issues some of you are having seem to come from Old Mac IE Browsers prior to OS X, AOL & Netscape Browsers which have many known issues, and some Windows IE Browsers. Even so, I think we have Windows IE Browsers working quite well now.
This has been the most difficult update we have had. I have spent several hundred dollars fixing the software and feel it is as good as resources will allow us to go. There are a couple of things the Moderators want me to do, but they are functionality, not code, related.
If you are still having problems, please down load and try Firefox for either Mac or PC. The Mozilla software engineers have left Netscape, AOL, and have created Firefox. They are keeping it current. You will be amazed at how fast and fun it is to use. It also has some wonderful security built into it. (No, I do not have Firefox stock.)
Lastly, the Skin I named 2.2.0-Mac07 is the latest and greatest Skin and is corrected for both Mac & Windows users.
I hope this helps,
Mike

I dearly love this forum site and all that it has to offer, it used to be the best of the bunch and I've met some great people through it. BUT, it isn't fun any more. Last week it seemed OK for a few days but then went wacko again. When I can't navigate without being constantly frustrated, then why bother. This is only one of several completely different types of forum that I visit [Photography, boler, gardening, canoe building, making musical instruments, carving and a couple of others] and the ONLY one causing a problem navigating. I'm not going to reconfigure my computer to suit one. I may check in once in a while to see what's happening and if you have changed anything for the positive, Mabee we'll meet again in the spring. Meantime I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.

When you're high strung like James and I ( sorry James) These little things make you crazy.
It has also driven me nuts for some time. Today I noticed it was trying to go to res://ieframe.dll/dnserror.htm during one of those clicks to go back.
I researched it a bit and found:
Switch off "Show friendly HTTP errors messages" in Internet Options, Advanced.
I use IE 7
I gave it a shot an Viola! SO far so good.
