tons of miles every where no problems. I also created a small
flare on the restyled wheel opening but the wheel and tire would
fit the stock opening. The side marker lights have been recessed
into the body. Some of the mods to our HoneyMooner!

Here's a pic of the new wheel on our Scamp during the pre-paint test fit stage. It has since been re-installed with new center caps. These 5 spoke aluminum wheels came stock on our Little Guy. I've found them available in the aftermarket now for around $85 shipped.

The beauty rings were a $.50 yard sale find. So we sanded and painted the rims to match the trailer.

Tom---If they are the same as Scamp, (4 on 4") that makes the wheels the same as Vega, Chevette, etc. Start scrounging your local wrecking yards. Larry

I've got a question, and this seems like a good place to ask, since most everyone here has added aftermarket rims.

I thought I had read somewhere that trailer rims were different? Like they were hub centered and not lug centered, or something like that ask.gif

Also.... offset?

How or what are you all looking for that tells you that these (or any) aftermarket rims will be suitable? I mean, beyond that they are the diameter you want and the number of lugs you want? What happens if one runs the "wrong" rims (even if they do physically fit)?

Thanks,

Raya

I believe you need to know size (13, 14, or 15 inch), bolt pattern (like 4.5"), and with my Casita it's zero offset.
Here's a pretty good source for trailer wheels: http://www.ricks-tire.com/

To answer a couple of your questions from both actual towing exprience and working in a shop
that specialized in aftermarket wheels.
Hub or stud mounted wheels,, only difference is weather they may move a slight amount
up and down and a radial tire will remove most of that when moving, no matter what wheel
you have no your trailer now jack it up and spin it , will probably run out somewhat.
Offset,, may work your bearings a little harder if they are negative offset bet on my Boler they
won't fit with too much offset.
My wheel, tire combo is featured in this post and we just got back from 39 days and 19,000
km's with 0 problems.

Don't buy the chrome plated steel. They will rust because the plating is too thin usually.
Causes me to steel wool them and keep waxed.

They also have to have an appropriate load rating. Which for most fiberglass trailers isn't an issue till you get to the single axle Bigfoots. We wanted to put wheels on the BF that match the truck but in the size we want we aren't comfortable with the weight rating.

Anything is possible if you throw enough money at it. If you're determined to have what you want "wheel-wise" I'd suggest a call to Stockton Wheel, if they don't have it, can't get it, they make it!

We had a terrible time finding wheels for our Compact Jr-if I remember right they were 13" 4x4 1/2. Couldn`t find anything that would fit-(salvage yards said the camper was too old-no parts that old)-until someone had 3 wheels on Craigslist for sale-racing wheels-we measured and they fit. Now we have sharp looking wheels.
If I can figure how to post pictures -will show what they look like.

I'll try to find a closer shot of the rims on our boler , matches the car !
