It's that time of year to bring up the fruitcake of Easter.
PEEPS!
I love em! I stick em in the freezer for a week and it stales em nicely!

Robert and his friend Bruce have this "thing" going about
PEEPS. Robert hosts a HUGE Easter open house event. Egg hunts. Easter Bonnet judging. Egg coloring. Guess how many Jelly Beans in the Jar. Gifts. Food, food, and more FOOD.
Bruce wrapped up a package of Purple Peeps and gifted to Robert the 1st year. Robert saved them, and re-gifted back to Bruce the 2nd year... Bruce ... regifted back the 3rd year...
Are 15 year old PEEPS properly stale?
I forgot who's giving and who's getting this year...

Well, that's a big disappointment. I will be cancelling my move to Canada! Check this out:

Canadians don't have Peeps? Oh... the humanity! We will send to you immediately!
Peeps are a silky marshmallow covered in crunchy sugar (Presumably, stuck on with wax

) They come in pink, yellow and purple and the traditional ones are shaped like little chicks, + they have bunnies..
They used to be just for Easter, but now there are Halloween Peeps shaped like cats and pumpkins. They aren't the same.

We have peeps in Ontario. They must have them in B.C. too. I'll check with my daughter who lives out there in lotus land.

The article Patrick posted said they do not roast well.
Have fun with that.. they may be more colorful than the hose and pipe

I'm just going on what another camper told me. Byron said they were better than plain roasted mashmellows. If they aren't then maybe like the article we can have a peeps eating contest.

My geocaching buddies claim they're better than roasted marshmellows. I don't eat either so I can't say first hand. But it's more fun watching the peeps burn than it is watching marshmellows burn.

We just arrived at our friend's house and on the counter were several boxes of yellow peeps -- most were gone. Seems they had a dinner party earlier in the day that got out of hand. Someone had the idea to deep fry the poor peeps.
They admitted it was not a good experience.

BTW---- when short of marshmallows for glaze on your yams/sweet potatoes---- Peeps are not a good substitute.

I don't want to talk about it....... Larry

I got eight boxes, ate one and the rest will go in the freezer to wait for the NOG. Got pink and yellow. I have heard both ways on the roasting. Guess we will have to experiment to see how to best roast peeps. They do strange things in the microwave but we'll see how they do over the open flame.
So you will know more than you ever wanted to know about peeps by the time you head home to Canada.

My favorite method for properly stalling them is... time.
However, I can't generally wait that long. Placing them in the freezer seems to do most of the trick.
I have some in a side drawer of my desk from last year. I think those are overdone.

Well, this poll lacked a couple critical options! Although, they were alluded to in a couple of the links. Peeps are a time-honored decoration and craft item (the diorama as an example). They are an essential and basic component of many microwave 'experiments' in combustion.
Years ago, I attended a vegetarian Easter dinner where the main entree was a rabbit shaped vegie-loaf surrounded by Peeps - after that, the fact that a parrot was walking around the table from shoulder-to-shoulder begging food off our forks, didn't even seem odd.
Peeps are not so much a food item as a creative entertainment item.

Thanks for the ideas... here's my plan:
Tomorrow, I am going to a Society for Conservation Biology fundraiser. It's sort of a dessert potluck only your dessert is supposed to represent an endangered species or habitat. SOooo, I will go to Walgreens and get a pack of pink Peeps. Then I'll go to the ice cream store and beg a few of those tiny sample spoons. If I poke the little spoon handles in the Peeps' mouths they can be Roseate Spoonbills!!!
Think it'll work?

You were right, Byron. They all survived the potluck without being eaten by predators!
The Ding Darlings did win "Most Creative", a $20 gift certificate to downtown Athens' restaurants and shops, and a beautiful Audubon calendar. There were some very cool concoctions at the meeting! We all had a lot of fun and a TON of sugar. I should have brought a designated driver with me

Thank you for the inspiration and encouragement.
