Lake Casitas 7th Annual Rally .. October 23 to 27, 2008.... (California)

We are again returning to Lake Casitas for our 7th Annual mini-rally. The weekend will be October 23-27 Jim and I will arrive on Thursday October 23rd and will check out on Monday the October 27. We are in Space 50....

BASS campground site map ........ http://www.lakecasitas.info/camping/bass.html

As of today (April 29) there are plenty of spaces available but book ASAP as they will fill up quick.

Phone ASAP for good spaces. … $30 a night with hookups plus a non-refundable registration fee of $7.50... (If changed or cancelled, A $5 fee will be charged). I believe it is $19/night without hookups.

To receive a refund, a 72-hour notice is required for any cancellations made to your reservation.

Check in time is 2 PM. Check out time is 12 noon.
On weekdays, the latest time you can enter the park is 9pm.
On weekends, the latest time you can check in is 10pm.

Ask for BASS campground. To reserve your space, phone (805) 649 1122......
Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 3:00pm.

Please let me know if you make a reservation. You can post here or email me.

They only have one phone line - it's a problem... but the only way to reach them is to start dialing and when you get the busy signal, just hit redial, and keep redialing with no breaks - should take about 5 to 10 minutes and you will get their answer machine - hang on and someone will answer......

This will be a relaxed rally. No Potluck will be planned. Friday night, on arriving you will find a campfire where roasting hot dogs over the fire will be Friday nights dinner for anyone who would like to join in. Bring your own hot dogs, chips etc. Everyone will be on your own for dinner on Saturday. An appetizer to share before dinner and/or a dessert to share after dinner would be appreciated.

If you would like to set up something like: solar demonstration, free or for sale camp items, Dutch Oven cooking, games, etc. Please feel free to do so – I’m open to any ideas you have.

(Lake Casitas is in Southern California between Ventura and Ojai)…

From the north: Take the 101 Freeway to Highway 150 East in Carpinteria.
Continue on 150 to Lake Casitas.

From the south: Take the 33 Freeway North to Highway 150. Turn left on Highway 150 and continue to Lake Casitas. The course is on the right after Bryant Road

Hi Carol,

You may now make Lake Casitas reservations online (For a nominal fee.. ain't it always the case?)

Clicky here for info and online reservation form.

At least they have stepped into the 90s.. nice if they stepped into this century tho l31.gif

If you are adamant about certain sites or finding out specifically what is available if they don't have your request, you will still have to do it the old fashioned way, I guess.
CarolnJim
Thanks Gina.. that's good to know.

Also, when you make a phone call to them they send the confirmation by email (use to be by snail mail)... I guess they are finally catching up.

By the way, it might just have been the time I phoned, (2:30 pm) but I only had to hold for about a minute and I made the reservation for our space and was done. Quick service this time.
Mike Sanders
I too got right in to make our reservations.

Lori and I are in B-49.
Thursday - Sunday (23rd-26th)
CarolnJim
You will be our neighbors again. Fantastic.
Frederick L. Simson
Robert & I have reservations for space B54, Friday arrival, Sunday departure.
CarolnJim
Nice space Fred. We look forward to seeing you at Lake Casitas.
Maggi Rudy

I made reservations from my cell phone in the car on the way home from the Lake San Antonio rally. The phone went dead just as the clerk was giving me a confermation number. I figured it was okay and I thougt we had reserved #47. Got to thinking about it when we got home and called and found that because of not receiving the conform #, My reservation didn't go through! WHAT A BUMMER!

So, to get a sight big enough for the evening campfires, etc., had to take #57! helpme.gif If there is some one out there that would like to trade sights so we could be in 47 or 48, those sites are more centrally located and would be nicer for the evening camp fires. Or, would you mind if we just had the evening fires there anyway!?

Looking forward to another wonderful get-to-gether at Lake Casitas!
CarolnJim

Hi Jeanne and Paul

I was hoping you would come again. See you soon.
Lori Sanders
Al and Jeannie Ashby are confirmed for site #39 for the weekend.
CarolnJim
Thanks Lori for letting us know about the Ashbys.
James Harper
how far is Lake Casitas from Riverside...my wife cant get off until 6 or so I was thinking about comming up fri night

CarolnJim
Hi James

I found this on Mapquest. If you live in Riverside County.. (there were 3 choices of Riverside).
Of course I don't have you exact address- try using mapquest with your address ..

I used Ojai which is just 6 miles from Lake Casitas. ( 10 minute drive)

Riverside to Ojai
Estimated Time: 2.0 hours 31 minutes
Estimated Distance: 140.58 miles

Important Info
There are others coming up Friday night - Lake Casitas does lock the entrance gate at night - I believe they lock it at 9:00 - You can ask when you make a reservation ...

(Last year we were able to have them keep the gate open for a little longer while they did their paperwork- can't guarantee this will happen again but we will try)

I hope you are coming and please let me know by email or post here.

Hope to see you in October.
Frederick L. Simson
During past Oregon Gathering Rallies, I had hosted a Saturday Seminar titled "Avoiding Disasters for Newbies". Carol asked me if I might do that at Lake Casitas, and I agreed to do it.

This year in Oregon, I have decided to shift focus. I talked my company's General Manager into allowing me to bring two wheel weighing scales. I will arrive in Oregon a day early, so that I can set up a "Pit-Crew" site and axle weigh trailers and tow vehicles before people go to their campsites.

As I won't be able to come early to Lake Casitas, I won't be able do it the same way there. But, I could bring the scales to you at your campsite on Saturday IF you don't mind the hassle of hitching up for a short time to get weighed.

Shall I stick with The "Disaster Avoidance" Seminar or bring my Scales? ask.gif
Toni M T
As a Newbie I think BOTH of them are great ideas! Thanx.gif

Sorry to be so wishy washy, but I just found out we'll have the time off to come to the Lake Casitas Rally, and of course we have no idea how much our trailer weighs fully loaded (hitching it up would be a minor inconvenience) and I have no idea what disasters might befall us (maybe it's better that way if I want to go on believing that our new Bigfoot and I will live "Happily Ever After"?) Naw-I think we subscribe to the 7 "P's"-"prior proper planning prevents Pss poor performance" -so bring it on!

Thanks for doing this for us-I for one really appreciate all of the effort you'll be making!! We hope we can bring some cocktails or home baked goodies or something else to show our appreciation!

Thanks for joining us at Lake Casitas. welcome2.gif You might want to stay Sunday night too. There's usually quite a few that stay until Monday.

Sorry we probably won't be at Lake Casitas this year, although we hope to be in Idyllwild by that time.

Fred, we are still interested in weighing the Boler.

I will be bringing the Wheelweighers and will be happy to weigh anyone at their site. You must hitch up the trailer and pull it up onto the scales. This will only move it forward a foot or so. Then you back it off the scales into your original position. Then we can weigh the tongue.
CarolnJim
Thanks for bringing all of your equipment to the rally.

Count us in Fred.. We want our Casita weighed, fully loaded .

Anyone interested in an ICE CREAM SOCIAL at the rally?

We are planning on having it at 1:30 on Saturday and we need volunteers to set tables up, and to help dish up the ice cream, as each person describes his desired treat to you.

Also and most important ... WE NEED ICE CREAM - 1/2 gallons of ice cream, probably vanilla would be best - we need sauces, and toppings ... maybe cans of crushed pineapple, strawberries (cleaned and cut), bananas, etc. Cans of Whipped cream too.

A few people could bring cookies or brownies - Yum.

We should have about 70 people or so, we need to have plenty to go around.

If you know what you would like to bring, please email me.... I'll try to watch so we don't have more sauces than we need, and not enough ice cream etc.

We will have bowls, spoons, napkins, for everyone.

How does this sound to all of you? . We are hoping everyone will participate...

(Please let me know ASAP - I have two out of state trips planned and will be gone from Sept 8-27, and again Oct 10-20. I am trying my best to get the rally in great shape before I leave for my trip).

Thanks to all, and we look forward to seeing that you all have a great time at the rally.

Hi! Newbie here! Hoping to get our egg ready to attend the Lake Casitas Rally but there aren't any sites left in the Bass Area. Anyone have to cancel or ???? We did find hookup sites across the way at Egret. Doesn't look too far from Bass but not sure. Thanks for any info. Eve

Hi Cliff, I did send her a PM today & waiting for reply. I believe Carol and Jim are on the road, at least that's what I read. Thanks for your reply.

Oh good Eve, you saw my post about the Lake Casitas Rally, I know you wanted a beach Rally. But I think you will enjoy this rally as well. I sure wish I could go, I will be in Ojai a couple weeks before for my class reunion and visit, But can't stay long enough to catch the rally. Have a great time! It's been years since I have camped at the Lake, but I think you would be ok in the other loop if you can't get a site with the others. Enjoy! Robin
