Any Colorado Egger's interested in getting a rally started in Colorado or even just a Egg get together? I am thinking of fall or spring, but hey we could do both 94.gif If interested, speak up............. Robin
Donna D.
Pick a place, pick a date and post pricing for a campsite and I bet you wouldn't be the only one there. Rallies DON'T have to be organized and structured to have a great time.

Count me in!

The EggCamper could use the exercise.
Robin G
I figured that Donna, but didn't want to pick a place and then everyone hate it! winky.gif Thought I would get others involved and hopefully we can get something together. Well see!

Ok, Orlen where do you suggest? We have so many options, but I would love some idea's of where everyone thinks it would be fun. I am not home right now, so I don't have my campsite books but do you think middle (near Denver) north (Poudre River-ish) South or even Western Slope? I would love Redstone, but Sites are limited because of the darn oil fields taking over private campgrounds in that area. Ideas Ideas Ideas.............. Let me know what you think. Robin

The reason I thought Redstone, was because there is so much to do in that area, Shopping, Fishing, Marble Mines, Fall Colors, Hot Springs, Some may even want to venture over to Aspen. Of course we would have to investigate price, availability etc.
Ken J
I have a friend who owns a nice campground with a nice pavillion near Durango at Lake Vallecito - on the edge of the Weimeche wilderness - who would love to have us if thats of interest to anyone...

Robin,

When Lori and I decided we would step up and put on a Rally, we talked (& emailed) 3 or 4 friends and asked if they would like to come if we put on a Rally in Central California near the coast. With a positive response we asked what were good dates for each of them. That gave us the confidence to get going knowing we would at least have 3 to 5 trailers and it would be good if no one else came.

With that information under our belts, we Posted on the Forums here the Date & Location and asked everyone to sign up. There seems to always be 25 to 40 trailers show up and it is fun.

Remember, "Many hands make light work." Let other people help with small parts of the rally, like the Friday night Meet & Greet or the Name tags (if you have them) or what ever.

Good Luck & HAVE FUN! - 94.gif

Hi Robin - what a terrific idea! Don't know where in CO you are located, but oh, dontcha love Rocky Mtn NP! We "expect" to visit relatives in Aurora mid-September (of course, nothing is as certain as change ... ) and if time & location allow, we'd be likely to 'nest' with other Egg-ers if we find 'em. We'll keep an eye on this thread as we wander. Happy camping and hope our travel paths cross in future - L 'n D

Sounds like fun, ..............

Robin G
KenJ, I know exactly where your talking about. We stayed in a Cabin on Vallecito years ago. Love it up there. But not sure about weather in the fall or spring, for eggs. It was colder than a well diggers when we were there....... Fun though, and great hiking. Can I get you to check on availability for lets say early Oct and prices? I know thats a quick pick of dates but lets just get some idea of whats up, if people are willing to go that far. It will be informal ( in the fact that we're throwing in together last minute) but if he would let us use the pavillion for a pot luck or other gathering that would be great!

L'n D, We are on the west side of Greeley, 10 min from Loveland. Estes Park is ok, I think highly overrated! But always willing to go winky.gif

Mike your probably right about just picking a place throw out some dates and work from there. But I don't mind driving anywhere, and basically like most area's of Colorado.......... That's why I thought I would throw it out and see if others can pinpoint a location. I so get what your saying about help. That's another reason I am throwing it out there. It will be fun to get something going in the Rocky Mountains. I was trying to think of a place that would have ton's of things to do in the area for people who may want to join us from other parts of the country. Hopefully others will have some more great ideas of where to hold it. It will be interesting to see what comes of it, Robin
Robin G
Oh and by the way, not just Coloradoian's are invited! Come join the fun! We don't have a date, nor do we have a place, but heck your invited! 4.gif
Ken J
Robin

I'll check on prices tomorrow first thing.... October is a great time of year if we were go early - days are warm -nights will be cold - I would not be able to join you all in early Oct (first weekend) because I'm putting on an Airstream rally at the balloon fiesta in Albuquerque. But I'll be glad to get things set up if thats where everyone wants to go.

The goods is its a great place for a rally the bads is its kinda out of the way....

Ken J
Robin G
Ewwwww, Balloon Festival? hmmmmmm, maybe we should be moving the egg get together to the festival. Only joking, I know that the whole area is covered up during it. Thanks for checking on it for us. We will see if people want to go that far. It would be beautiful up there that time of year. Robin
Ken J
Yup - we have an incredible blast at the balloon fiesta - only problem its dry camping - no showers, no hookups and costs $340 for 4 nights - but as I said we have a great time, its right on the field and includes passes to the fiesta, and I guess its worth it to all of us crazies...

I called the Blue Spruce and they said 20/night and free use of the pavillion and dining hall - so its a great deal if it works.

My first choice would be somewhere in the southwestern part of the western slope in early to mid October (or late September). Gunnison, Buena Vista, even as far south as Durango. My second choice would be the area west of Denver, maybe Idaho Springs or Empire. Or around one of the ski areas like Winter Park.

Maybe camp in a national or state forest area instead of a commercial campground if the folks attending are into boondocking.

I've heard horror stories about problems with the oil exploration and drilling folks reserving complete campgrounds, hotels etc. in a large area surrounding Glenwood Springs so that could put west central Colorado out of the running. The front range, especially the areas around Denver and Colorado Springs, have plenty of varied activities and easy access via the Interstate system buts are pretty commercialized (i.e. expensive).

If it is held in October we have to warn folks that it can get cold, especially at the higher elevations. Also, hunting season starts in October so we could have competition for camping areas from hunters. I also remember that many of the campgrounds are only open from April to September.

OK. Now that I've thrown a few monkey wrenches into the works I'll offer whatever help I can to make things happen. I'm at work now so I don't have my campground listings books available but I'll take a look when I get home this evening.

I'm happy to see someone planning a meet in the Colorado area. Unfortunately, with my work schedule I can't get to any of the big rallies I read about on this forum.

Ken J
Yea - I was hesitant to say anything to put a monkey wrench into the party too, but Sept might be better. Also may want to consider south - like La Vita - we have had vintage Airstream rallies there that were good because it easier to get to if you are coming up from Texas, NM or Arizona...

Ken J.
Robin G
Ok, you guys are probably right about Oct.......... I am just a fall colors girl! But Sept is probabaly better (just shorter notice for people) So now we have to come up with a campground. Can anyone think of anything around Cuchara? It's beautiful there as well. As far as State or Blm campsites I don't know of any good ones down there. I guess we should pick an area that is easy for others to get to. When I get home, I will pull my books out and see what I can find, unless others come up with a great area. Robin

Lori & I will be in the south-west Colorado area (Pagosa Springs) the last week of August. We are going to a Bluegrass festival with The Legendary Earl Scruggs. http://www.folkwest.com/index2.htm

RATS, we'll miss your Rally.
Robin G
Mike, You and Lori should hang around the area for a while ! 94.gif It's so beautiful there and if you guys hung out long enough you could join us, aaaaaaa where-ever we end up confuse.gif Enjoy the Fesitval, It's suppose to be great! Robin

Grand Mesa might be interesting - it's awfully empty, with a myriad of lakes. No hookps (that I'm aware of) and lots of basic camping, good fishing, moose, elk. Far enough from civilization that many coloradans never get there.
September is less likely to get snowed in anywhere, but we have gotten heavy snow here in early Sept in the past....

I am working on getting a getogether for the first or second week of October, most likely the second one, in Galena, IL, if that affects your plan. It will not be until next year, though. Must get tenure papers together this year.

Hi all -

We hope this rally comes together and a good time is had by all. Unhappily, family matters will keep us in California until 9/16, and that will put us in the Rockies too late ... too cold for D. 52.gif

However it goes, keep posting all the info - thanx, L 'n D

I just returned from three days of camping at Camp Hale. If folks are interested in a Colorado get together at a dispersed camping facility Camp Hale would be great. There is enough room for hundreds (literally) of campers. Camp Hale is located on Hwy 24 between Leadville and Minturn about 5 miles west of the Tennessee Pass summit.

This is where the 10th Mountain Division trained during WWII. All the buildings have been razed so there is a lot of flat area for camping and some big areas that could hold at least 30 rigs.

Best part - no cost for camping in the dispersed camping area. They do have a groomed camping area of about 15 sites that costs $14 a day and requires reservations. The groomed area does not have any utilities so I couldn't see any advantage to it over the dispersed camping area.

There is no electricity, water or sewer and no well water available on site so everyone would have to bring their own supplies.

I'll get some pictures processed (shrunk down to a reasonable size) and post them here tomorrow.
Paula Bindrich
Camping. Isn't that what I got my camper for? I've had a terrible time trying to do that though.

Was going to go up to Shrine Pass but the weather forecast was all rain! Stayed home with a cocoa.

I wouldn't be able to join you guys since my work schedule includes Saturdays. When I was up on Grand Mesa it was pretty cool. I was boondocking in my tent at the time. Sat out in the moonless night with my wine and watched an owl "shadow" my dog as she wandered around the meadow. Very nice place to hang.

Not to put a damper on things but hunting season actually starts August 30. Archery first. Muzzleloaders start mid September and rifle in mid October. Bear season is all of September. At least with a bow and arrow they have to see you well before they let loose.

Robin,

We have been hoping for a Colorado gathering. So, count on us making every effort to attend.

A fall get together will be short notice for us and may not be able to attend. A spring get together would be a for sure.

Let us know how we can help.

Blue Spruce is a nice campground, easy to get to from Durango. We've not camped there, but some of our local Good Sam chapter members go there frequently and recommend it.

Another nice Four Corners campground is Priest Gulch, beautiful setting right on the Dolores River, north of Dolores, CO. Nearby attractions are Mesa Verde N.P. and the Anasazi Cultural Center at Dolores. (The latter has great interactive displays for kids.) Priest Gulch is high on our "must do" list, but I understand reservations are sometimes hard to get.
Ken J
I've stayed at Priest Gulch and yes it is a very nice campground - highly recommend it.

I suggested Blue Spruce because I know the owner really well and would give us a reasonable price + free use of the pavillion.

I am back................. Sorry I haven't been around, When not taking the Casita out for a few different 2 week adventures and moving ( to an area that doesn't have the best Internet Access available.) Finally got that taken care of yesterday! Whooo Hoooo! Anyway, I think trying to put something together for fall would be very short notice for surrounding Fiberglass friends that may want to attend. I Pm'ed several others and suggested maybe getting a quick fall campout together and plan a Spring/Summer gathering. How does that sound for others. Personally after spending a week (last week infact) without services, I would prefer a campground with some services. The hauling water thing about killed me. winky.gif I am still up for the Sothern Colorado gathering ( maybe for spring), but would love input from others that think they might attend. As for a quick fall campout, I am thinking if we did something more near where people live. As for the hunting season that Paula talked about, that could be an issue as well as weather if we were to go south or the western slope. So I guess lets see how many would like to have a fall campout, Due to iffy weather and maybe the hunting season conflict maybe we should hold it nearer to the east side of the Rockies. Let me know if you have any suggestions. We are always up for the Poudre River area but I know there have to be other great campgrounds around the frontrange. Let me know if you want to attend and where you suggest to camp.

As for a Spring/Summer get together, if everyone likes the idea of Southern Colorado, we could start looking at availability for late May early Juneish dates. Any months work better for others? Robin
Ken J
If it makes a difference - I'll be in the Fort Collins area weekend of 9/13 if that works for anyone.....

Dean & Mary
A lot of good options are being suggested and we look forward to a get together.

Mary and I will be camping at Eleven Mile State Park September 8, 9 and 10 (Mon, Tues & Wed). We have reservation at the North Shore campground, Loop D, site 260. All are welcome to join us.

It is not very crowed there on weekdays and there will be plenty of sites to choose from without making reservations. Loop D does not have electric, other loops have electric.

Eleven Mile reservoir is located approximately an hour west out of Colorado Springs off of hwy 24. Let me know if you need more information.

Dean
Robin G
Dean and Mary, that sounds fun, but we will be at Pueblo West visiting some friends. Hopefully at some point all of us Colorado people can get a camp out together. I guess we just need to pick a date for next spring/summer and go for it. Rkg
Ken J
Another idea - I'm pretty sure I'll be in the Colorado Springs area weekend of 9/26 - I'm usually not up that way very often - just happens to work out that way...

Ken J.

Anyone else up to meeting up with KenJ? We just got home today from a quick trip to Pueblo Lake (ick) but Dh was already asking where we were going next. Does anyone know of campgrounds in the Springs area. I was thinking of laying low for a few weeks before I head out for my 30th class reunion (ewwww). Last year (2007), we spent a week in the Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs area, we camped at South Meadows CG of the Pike's Nat'l Forest just outside of Woodland Park a few miles. It was a very nice site, the Camp Hosts keep the place spotless. Drawbacks were the pit toilets but they were new and kept clean and no dump site exect down the road off a dirt road with a fee of $10. Also no showers.

It was the closest Nat'l Forest CG to the two Springs (which I found, I should say). There were a couple more CG down the road as well. We enjoyed it there. We had a mini family rally with four different trailers making our Colorado Rendezvous.

SOUTH MEADOWS Campground: Site has 64 camp sites with parking areas up to 30' long within the 8,000' elevation. Camping season is year round with a user fee of $15.00/per night/per site. The camp-ground has paved roads. Limited sites are reserved by calling 1-877-444-6777. Reservations may be made 240 days prior to arrival and there is a reservation fee. There is also a 2-night minimum stay if your reservation is for Friday or Saturday nights. This does not apply to sites not listed in the reservation system.
We did not do reservations.

I would be up for the weekend of 26/27/28 Sept. KenJ or Robin - Any ideas on where in the Co. Spr. area? I'm good with anything from full hookups to just a flat spot to park the egg.

We are outside of Beulah. It's a lovely area, about 25 miles SW of Pueblo, and I wish I could recommend everyone come down here, but I don't know of any camping areas with infrastructure. I agree with the comment about Lake Pueblo. No interest.

The road that ends at the foot of Greenhorn Mountain has some absolutely lovely camping areas, almost always deserted, two lakes, trout, gorgeous views - but no water, power, parking pads, pit toilets. End of the road camping has always been our preference. If anyone is ever interested in meeting down there, I'll provide info and will show up. However, it doesn't sound like that's what everyone wants this trip. The road will probably be closing in the next week or so anyway, but I'll check with the forest service office to verify status.

I can't meet 26th/27th due to a couple of other conflicts, but certainly would try to make a get-together in Colorado sometime. Our complicating factor is that my wife is a nurse, so weekends often find her working. On the other hand, she often gets 3-4 days off during the week, which is when we do a lot of our camping and hiking! Who says it's not a perfect world....

Pup, I wished! 52.gif Not so much! LOL..............

Well as for the Camping, I am with you on having hookup's, just cause the last two trips a have been hookup-less. I am ready for the luxury of hookup's. Even just electric/water would be nice. But since KenJ needs full, I am willing. But I don't know of any campgrounds/rvparks down there. And my camping books are still packed in one of the million boxes I haven't go to since our move. Does anyone know of or have a campground guide that we could find a decent place to camp? Cause the 26th is approaching fast. Let us know! Robin

Barring, sorry you can't join us for this campout but hopefully we can get a spring thing planned. It would be fun to meet everyone! As far as caming during the week, that's great for us. We don't have a schedule so open to camping just about anytime.
Ken J
Actually, full hookups in my case is just water and elec too.

There is a KOA south of town which is medium ok - I stayed there several years ago

Ken
Robin G
To tell the truth I am a full hookup kinda gal, but I can survive every once in a while with less for a short time winky.gif . KOA is fine with me, but if someone else has a better idea, let us know, Not a huge fan of KOA's but they work in a pinch. Since I have never stayed in the Springs I don't know of any but will try and investgate other options. Robin

KenJ, where are your meetings at? Which end of town. The Springs can be a bear to get around at certain times of the day.

I did a search in woodalls, and this is what I found...
In CO springs:

Fountain creek RV park-719-633-2192 ($34)

Garden of the Gods campground - 800-248-9451 ($40-49)

Goldfield RV park-888-471-0495 10-50% off with good sams, passport, etc. ($28-35)

Rangler RV Ranch and Motel-(719)591-1402 ($26-28)

Mountaindale Campground and Cabins (719)576-0619 ($29-35)

The KOA is in Fountain CO, ($31-55) off of exit 132.
Robin G
I was just searching myself Pam and basically found the same as you, didn't run across the Rangler one..... Just went and found it, not such good ratings so maybe we should stay with any of the others mentioned. Are you going to try and join us? It would be great to finally get to camp with other egg's.

Oh and a FYI- Sometime this fall ( I called, won't be ready for this trip, But next spring?) our State Park system is updateing Cheyenne Mountain State Park Campground with 51 full hook-ups..............hmmmm, I am thinking the Spring thing! Anyway, I thought it was great to see that maybe some of our Colorado Lotterey dollars are actually making it to our State Parks.

I don't know if I will be able to get away...the suburu we bought suffered major engine damage when a hole occurred in the oil filter. My suburban is a major gas hog. But...if we happen to get a surprise check... exactly.gif

Pam, Ojai Calif, actually there will be a fiberglass rally at a lake just outside of Ojai the weekend after my reunion. F.Y.I., since you're looking for a Colorado Springs camp, our local Good Sam Chapter went to the Springs four days last week and stayed at Golden Eagle Ranch campground:

They all seemed to enjoy the trip and the facilities. (We didn't go, so no first-hand evaluation.) Trip was arranged and wagon-mastered by former Durango G.S. members who now live in the Springs.

You might want to check out this park. (It appears to be a huge park.)
