I had this outlet installed recently and find it very useful. I can run my 12 volt DVD player or check the status of the battery. - Ron Mayo

I’m a firm believer in making things easy and installed a water shielded 12VDC outlet next to each tire and I use an electric jack to lift the egg. I also installed an outlet in the front and one in the rear and will install one inside like yours.

The Electric Size jack at www.heartlandamerica.com is a marvel and lifts the egg effortlessly. I have also used it around the house to lift / move heavy objects.

Looks neat, where do you buy either of them?

I think I bought them at Camperworld but you can Google them on the net.

1. Prime Products - "12 Volt Receptacle" , The catalog no. is #08-5015

2. Equus #3721 Battery and Charging System Monitor. Web site = www.iequus.com

I add this to the upper end cabinet so that I can connect a clip-on 6" fan in hot weather or a small portable dvd player.I also have a weatherproof type on the outside for an extension cord with a 12v bulb for the dining shelter. Most automotive stores carry these and it can be wired into your lighting circuits without much trouble. I never thought about the battery check feature. Great idea, thanks.

Would that 12 volt outlet be the same thing as a cigarette lighter outlet? (i am planning the latter for my trailer) Thanks a lot

Hi Cyndi,

I just installed a 12v outlet in my trailer. I bought it from Crappy Tire:

Auxiliary Power Source Outlet

I also bought and installed an inline fuse before the 12v socket. This was handy as if you wire the 12v outlet backwards (which I did, see note below) it pops the inline fuse and doesn't hit your convertor.

ATM Inline Fuse

Note that the wiring on your scamp is 'proabably' black positive and white negative whereas the Crappy Tire 12v outlet is red positive and black negative. I was just learning 12v when I first did this and I now use my multi-meter to tell me what's really happening.

This is used with Inteli-Power RV Switch/Converters. I'm not sure if it will work with any other Manufacturers. It requires a special port on the switch/converter.

I found an Equus 3721 Battery and Charging System Monitor on Amazon.com for Item: $20.27 including Sales tax, Shipping, & Handling.

Good Luck!

Thanks, i will try that if i cant find it locally. It's always higher shipping up here to the isolated far north (even though it's 4o mins from the border)
