Hart Ranch, in Rapid City SD, is home to many retirees, both who live there, and many who use them as a residence. They are a membership resort, but sport some of the lowest rates around. We like them because their storage rates for trailers are extremely low.

Juneau!? on a general cities-for-retirement-consideration list? hmm... I wonder if the writer actually went (or checked a map?) and realized that if you want to leave town to maybe actually GO, say, --anywhere-- it will take a $$ plane ticket(s) or $$ ferry ride(s)? not to mention the overall cost of living being fairly high too thus defeating the suggested 'tax savings'. But hey, "after work" you can go walk down to the waterfront to go fishing, or climb mountains and visit nearby glaciers. There is the capital building to visit, too, but our now famous governor is not often there.

In fairness, while I personally would not want to live there full-time, there are over 30,000 folks who do, and Juneau (and that part of the state in general - the 'panhandle') is a beautiful place with a rich history - so it's well worth visiting if anyone gets the chance. Hope for a sunny day.

me, I enjoy living in Anchorage (warning! Alaskan cliche' to follow!) where I'm only a 15 minute drive from Alaska.

I looked at that list and said to myself, “What is that writer thinking. Retirees don’t like to be cold.”

I'm not retired but I am too acclimatized. It's downright chilly here in FL right now. So you could take FL off the list too. My wife wants to move south when it gets like this.

We are actually looking. WE love Upstate NY and it works out for us as far as taxes, health care, etc, Oneonta, not Albany. But it is so cold. Therefore we are checking out the Carolinas. But you know, right now if we don't like where we are, we can just move our little Casita to the next place.

Wyoming is so-so with taxes, no income tax, and low sales tax 5%.But property taxes and home prices have gone through the cieling! My property tax doubled last year to this year, and no use bitching, the assesor said, if I come and do a revue, more than likely your taxes will go up! It is a lose lose! And what is sad, the state is awash in mineral royalties!

So what's south of Florida???

Haha ... good question. I'll have to ask her! I'd love to see New Zealand but I havn't really checked out the climate there. No habla Espanol so South America's out.
