Just going to post a brief review of the second of two campgrounds we used on our latest trip (completed yesterday).

After staying for almost a week at Manatee Springs State Park, we loaded up and headed to Little Talbot Island State Park north of Jacksonville Florida. The park is located on a barrier island and access is basically along the famous A1A. It's a pretty secluded park and it's very quiet. The campground is on one side of the highway and the bulk of the park on the other side. There's a security gate at the campground entrance and you must have a code to get in, which is a nice touch. Almost all of the sites are well shaded and separated from adjacent sites by palmettos and oaks. Each site has electric, water, picnic table, lantern post, clothes line (yep, for real), and fire pit.

The rest room was located down a forest path (or a brief walk down the road) and was very modern and clean. The baths all had three sinks, three toilets, and three showers, one each of which was oversized and handicap accessible. The bath house also had a washing machine and drier, both coin operated ($1.50 a pop). The washing machine was top-notch, but the drier didn't seem to work too well. We ended up having to dry our clothes on lines.

There is a boat ramp at the end of the campground road, which was nice, along with a small pier for fishing at high tide. There are ample hiking trails, too, one in the campground loop we used. The rangers were very friendly and helpful. The campground itself was very quiet and well groomed. Our site was rated for a 15-foot RV, but we had little trouble backing our 17-foot Casita into it with plenty of room for our truck, and, if we'd wanted, our screen house. But we didn't set up our screen house.

As happenstance would have it, the site right next to ours housed another Casita. Same year and model (2002 Freedom Deluxe). Owned by a couple from Tennessee named Harry and Jo.

All in all, I highly recommend Little Talbot Island State Park. Campground very nice. Setting quiet and peaceful. Five miles of unspoiled beach! How often can you find that in Florida?!
