In the past, I towed my 1300 lb Love Bug with a Chevy Astro. The Astro has since gone to the big car crusher in the sky. My new tow vehicle is a Mercury Grand Marquis with a 4.6 L V8. The car has an oversize radiator, tranny cooler and 6 qt oil capacity. These things must all be set up as squad cars.

Does anyone tow with either a Grand Marquis or Crown Victoria? What kind of mileage should I expect? I have done some short trips towing the Bug locally and I am getting just under 20 mpg moving along at about 60 mph. Would it help to put a canoe on the roof of the car to help split the wind. A friend always did that when pulling with his station wagon but he pulled a big aluminum box trailer.

The trip route is: Wisconsin through the Badlands to Mt. Rushmore, south to Pikes Peak, west to the Grand Canyon, drop off a daughter at college in Durango, CO. Rocky Mt National Park. Home.

I will try to get some pictures of the trip when I get back.

Does anyone have information about towing with any sedan with and without a kayak or canoe on the roof??? How about a roof box or earo box?? I would think that someone had compared mileage.
