helpme.gif Does anyone have any recommendations for a campground around the St. Paul area, perhaps 30 miles to the east? Also any campgrounds around the area to the west and south of Milwaukee.
Thanks, Thanx.gif

Champoeg State Park would be a good choice: http://www.oregon.gov/OPRD/PARKS/reserve.shtml
It is about 35 miles from Milwaukie via I-205, and even closer to St. Paul in a beautiful historical area.

I'm betting that Diane means the St. Paul that is the capital of Minnesota, and Milwaukee as in neighboring Wisconsin.

I'm from Minnesota, but don't know of any specific campgrounds, other than to say that the Hudson River valley is east of St. Paul and very pretty.

Raya,

I am sure you are absolutely correct about the states. Coincidentally, Oregon also has a St. Paul and a Milwaukie, although spelled differently!

I used to live in SE metro of Mpls/St. Paul for many years.

Check the MN DNR (dept of natural resources) site for state parks there are a few in the area.

Fort Snelling State Park is located practically in the metro area, by the airport.
Afton State Park is more eastern towards MN-WI border.

A non-state park is Lebanon Hills Regional Park, located along the Eagan/Apple Valley border. They have a conveniently located small rv campground, located in a large regional park.

But state parks are plentiful, and just about all of them are nice to stay at. MN has one of, if not, the best state park system nationwide.

Yes it was the Minnesota/Wisconsin area we were looking at. Thank you all for your comments. Dan, I will check with the MN DNR on line.
Thanks,

If you go 30 miles east of St. Paul, I think you're in Wisconsin. BTW, it's the St. Croix River -- not the Hudson River -- that divides the two states. But Hudson, Wisconsin is just across the river from Minnesota.

Check out Willow River State Park.

Okay, I guess this means it's time for me to move back home. How embarrassing! Yes, I was thinking of the town of Hudson (and that general area, since it's pretty and also close to St. Paul), but of course it IS on the St. Croix River.

Sheesh! :slaps self upside head:

Here are a couple within 5 miles of each other. These are approx 50 miles southwest of Milwaukee:

The first is a private campground with both tent camping and improved sites. See www.scenicridgecampground.com.

The second is a State campground. Facilities are sparce, outdoor toilets etc. but a nice place.

Thanx.gif you both Jeff and Peter for the suggestions. It is much appreciated
Raya, looks like you'll just need to make a trip back . h47.gif

It has been quite a while since I've visited Willow River State Park, but it is a very nice park!
