Anyone that has laid a new floor in their little fiberglass children knows:
1: They gotta be hip, cause they sure ain't square!
2. Finding a way to mount the trim can be a real pain.
Once again, wandering around a big box store, something caught my eye and I went "Yes! Thats it!
"It" is trim for fiberglass shower wall enclosures. It has a flange that extends way beyond the visible trim bit. My immediate thought was that that flange could be easily fastened to the sub floor with brads, and pushed and shaped to match the odd and uneven curves of the walls...minimizing the "gap" syndrome common with egg floor trim.
Sooo... in probably the worlds first Cart Before the Horse case that actually works.. I installed the trim BEFORE I laid the floor.

Now, this solution will only work with vinyl. I used the same "Novallis" wood plank peel and stick flooring that I did in my 13 footer, and it was a perfect fit. It tucked up into the trim gap like it was designed for it.
Click to view attachmentAdd a little bright white caulk to the miters that never quite match, and run a small bead of the same to cover the big gaps at the corners... looks like it was meant to be!
I got this (And the flooring) at Lowes.

Great timing! I am going to lay my flooring in a few days. I was just going to lay it like a rug and leave the trim till next summer, cuz I was too tired of doing fixing to deal with the trim. This looks like it is the perfect solution; I will use your idea!

Thanks Gina, I have exactly that problem with the Allure flooring I put in - the caulking job I did looks just awful.

I do not think this will work with the Allure, as it is too thick, but they may make different sizes.
The Novallis stock is a perfect fit. If it was any thicker, it would be hard to install under the lip.
Standard tiles would be fine too, I think, or even low pile carpet.

Gina..........help! We took off for Lowes in Eugene OR as soon as we read your email. Nobody had heard of the stuff you're using. I mean the vinyl stuff. We even took your picture with us and tried several other big stores with no luck. Does it have a name we can quote/order?
Thanks,
Christine

It's ALL vinyl...
NOVALIS Flooring, Timber Series, WD4018-94507: Gunstock Golden OakThe
inside corner trim molding is more difficult to identify. Lowe's Website is no help.

They don't sell it online; only in the store!
I can post a reference after I visit a store.

its actually the Golden Oak... but sometimes its hard to tell the difference. The Gunstock is very dark. The natural is TOO light.
It should be located with all the peel and stick flooring tiles. At least, it is in every Lowes store I have been to.
I found the trim at the end of the aisle that had shower doors and other bathroom construction stuff. Sorry, I don't have a name or part #, but it is stored on end in 10 foot length. There are inside corner ones and flat panel seam ones as well. White and Almond colors.

Gina, you did a really good job on the flooring, looks very nice and must have taken a lot of work. I'm still cleaning up my Burro and carpet will be one of the last things on the list.

Thought I would jump in. This is a great thread. I have installed the Allure flooring in many of my jobs and it is great stuff. We bought our trailer with the flooring already in it. The finish is a brown steel plate which is really unique. I painted the ceiling and walls of the trailer (17' - 1980 Boler) in white and then painted all the wood (previously done in beige/pink - yeck) in a soft cream yellow... I finished all the walls in navy blue cove base. This is the rubber edging found in most bathrooms and kitchens that are not finished in wood baseboard. It looks great and works well for keeping clean. We travel with 3 dogs so it helps alot and the area is sealed quite well.
Sure enjoying the women's point of views on this website....
