Any one have any tried and true methods on how to remove the rust on stainless steel stove cover and rust spots on the stainless steel oven door.

Not wanting to paint at this point but is there anything that works???

Hi: LeeAnne... Two names come to mind from our Boler cleaning. AUTOSOL comes in a tube and also NEVR-DULL comes in a can. Avail. [at] Cdn. Tire I think. Both will brighten up your metal surfaces but if they are pitted the rust will reappear next year!!!

I like Simichrome or 3M Marine Metal Restorer and Polish.

If the rust doesn't come off with a polish (it probably will), then you can start with something a little bit more abrasive and work your way back smoother (very fine wetsanding paper, a 3M pad, etc.).

Like Alf said, it's important to have as smooth a surface as possible. The more you keep it smooth and polished, the better it will stay shiny and non-rusty.

Stainless certainly doesn't mean rustless as a bunch of us have found out. I use ZUD in my stainless steel sink. It's a non-abrasive cleaner. You can find ZUD in nearly any grocery store with the Comet-type cleansers. But, the rust will come back when any moisture is about. However, ZUD is easy enough to use, I don't mind the upkeep.

I imagine that many places must carry it; I would probably order it from Jamestown Distributors.

Originally, ours was in deplorable condition and I sprayed it with oven cleaner and used a scotchbrite pad to get rid of the grunge and the rust. Now I only have to use a BRASS detailing brush every few years and a bit of metal polish to brighten it up and remove those small rust spots that you just can't get to go away. I just re did it last week and it looks great.

I've had a real good luck with BAR KEEPERS FRIEND. Here in the States its readily avialable at the dollar type stores and grocery stores. It is relatively inexpensive. I've used it on stainless, plastic and fiberglass.
