The dates are set for the third annual "Quartzsite Arizona Gathering". February 12th thru the 14th. Again George & Betty and Doug & Michelle will be the hosts for the event. As usual, George & Betty will be there on Wednesday, a few days early. Last year there were already 5 or 6 trailers there when we arrived.
What: Several days of free boondocking fun for all fiberglass trailers.
Where: Dome Rock area, Quartzsite, Arizona.
Directions: Aprox 5 miles west of Quartzsite on I-10, take Dome Rock Rd. exit (#11). If heading west, go under the overpass at the end of the
offramp. Head east on the frontage road a mile or two. Pie plate signs will be posted from the offramp. You will see us, onbody has gotten lost
yet.
Camping: Dry camping ( No facilities)
Surface: Hard packed dirt.
Wine Tasting! Click here for details!Campfires: These are fine but you must bring wood.
Water and Dump Station: In town.
Markets: In town there are a couple of small markets.
This event keeps getting bigger each year. We had 32 trailers last year and are looking for over 40 this year. Really looking forward to seeing old friends again and meeting new ones.

Excellent!!! We'll be there for our third year! While that is Valentines Day, it is also Presidents Day on Monday the 15th, so we'll probably be in on our usual Friday nite late arrival, but stay thru Monday.
Gina---Dalton and Kate have already been asking if the Beagles will be there.....
Thanks to George & Betty and Doug & Michelle for organizing this again!

Greg, I am not bringing my trailer, I am fulltiming in Q for this winter and my set up is semi permanent. Tearing down would be a real pain.
So, I will day visit, and I don't think the pups will be with me for that.

It is always a good time in Quartzsite in the winter months. So much to do and see! And to do it surrounded by experienced company is the best! Come on down, you will not be disappointed. Doug and Michelle

Michelle and I just got back from a great Rally in California at Lake Casitas. Carol Upton did a wonderful job of hosting the event. We enjoyed ourselves very much and highly recommend this gathering. It was a very organized event with activities planned throughout the day in a State Park with hookups.
Quartzsite on the other hand is a laid back, no reservations, no hookups, with few planned events gathering in the desert in February. Many people spend their days in town and their evenings around the campfire. It is a fun time and place to get in some winter camping in sunny Arizona and meet new friends.
Plan to come out and play, Doug and Michelle

This is GREAT! I thought I missed the opportunity for a rally until next summer. Thanks, Gina, for pointing me here. I plan to be there and ask LOTS of questions about getting Sunny

fixed up and living the FG life.

Friends and fellow RVers,
As some of you know, Rosemary Rizzo hosted a wonderful "Wine Tasting" event at the Lake Casitas Rally this year! Michelle and I enjoyed the event and the fun personality of the host. I asked her to come to Quartzsite and do a tasting and she agreed to. So, would anyone be interested in participating? Let me know.

you guys will really have no problem finding it. The hosts get there early, the eggs are easily visible from the road and there is no cross country figuring out to do.
Just do as Simon says.. follow dome rock road, look to the south for eggs.. pull in!
I have found it twice without a GPS.

I'm not worried about finding the location. I just get a kick out of how exacting people have to be with GPS's.
I have one but don't use it for locating campsites rather for Geocaching.
I still like using paper maps, road signs, the sun for east and west and just following my nose.
Pat And Arleen
Dec 6 2009, 05:56 PM
We also use our GPS for mostly off road with its Topo map. We mark our starting point and off we go into the hills and when we get lost we look to the GPs for our way back to camp. In a way its fun to take the wrong turns because we get to see things we would have never seen out riding. I would not ride the trails without one its to easy to get lost out on them. The longer you ride, the more trails you see.

AND... Just to point out... when you get down to 1/100 of a second of a degree (33
o 38' 38.4
5")... a ....01" is just around "to the nearest foot".
MORE accuracy than we need, IMHO. If you get within 100' you can probably SHOUT.
Math... circumfrence of the Earth = 24,902 miles (equator) (approx)
24902 / 360 dagrees = 69.17222... miles per degree
divided by 60 minutes = 1.15287 miles per minute or 6,087 feet
divided by 6o seconds = 101 1/2 feet per second
or about a foot per 1/100th of a second.
And for LONGITUDE that is the Equator value... as far north of the Equator as we are, it is even less.
