Interesting link Donna! I have been following the tiny house movement for many years. I love Texas Tiny Houses and the Tumbleweed Homes. I have a quite a few sites book marked and a folder of tiny house pictures. I always thought they would make nice
camping cabin in a campground!

I would love to have one in the mountains somewhere.

I love the look of that second one, too bad these houses would be illeagal where I live. The whole town has a 1000 Square foot minimum. Oh well, the taxes would be too high anyway
When I use my < 65 sq.ft. Scamp, it makes me understand how easy it would be to live in a small house, especially with a porch, basement and an attic

Floyd, most Tumbleweed houses are trailers. That is how they get around some zoning laws. With the new small house craze and economic turn down many communities are rethinking the minimum house size. I've never lived in a house over 1000 sf, the house we have lived in for the last 25 years is 875 sf.

Well I don't think house #1 is livable for every day life but most are certainly workable. Except house #11. Good Gawd, I could never live on the side of a mountain like that........ Give's me the willies just thinking about it. Kinda like the rock climber's that sleep in sleeping bags hanging hundreds of feet up, dangling in the wind. Not for me!

Thanks for sharing that Donna. For those of us who like small spaces...they're all wonderful in their own ways. Personally, I'd love to live in that one next to the cliff!

a 10 x 15 stone cottage based on Thoreau's Walden Pond timber-frame cottage. Beautiful, I think. Of course, this one was built as a guest cottage, not a primary residence, but it could be done.
There's a neat company in Asheville building "right-size" homes, compact cottages dot com. I've toured one under construction, and a tiny house on wheels. Inventive, compact, energy efficient, and more importantly, liveable.

This reminds me of an ancestor's "home" that my family visited in 2009. My (multi) great grandfather was Squire Boone Jr., younger brother of Daniel Boone. He built this house now located in Defiance, Missouri, but never lived in it. It was moved to Boonesfield Village, and is close to the home where Daniel Boone died.

That's a beautiful cottage. I think our ancestors (mine included---prairie pioneers in the midwest, from Scandinavia) built what they needed, and not more, knowing that heating it thru the winter meant more work in the summer. We've lost sight of that, with the meter posted out of sight, and no longer having to cut wood to heat the house for the winter... at least for most of us.

Thanks. I think it's one of the loveliest modern-day versions of the Thoreau cabins I've seen, ever. I've also seen some great timber-frame, all wood versions of his ten by fifteen or ten by sixteen cottage on Walden Pond. I'd love to build one someday.
