16ft Scamp trailer

Recently purchased a Scamp trailer on-line. Referred to Scamp website for pertinent info. Website sez headroom is 75". Disappointed to find actual headroom is 72.5"

What age is the Scamp you purchased. Scamp had a fire a few years back and the moulds of the 13' ? changed a little after and I believe the newer trailers may have a bit more headroom as a result.

Carol is correct. The factory burned in 2006, destroying the trailer molds. The current specs you saw on the Scamp website are for the post-fire units. The extra headroom was a welcome addition to the design. Sorry you got disappointed by that, but hopefully it will still work out for you?

Ok, now I'm puzzled. My brochure from Scamp also says 6'3" (75" as you say). So it should have been. Any other owners of new-ish Scamp 16s care to chime in?

Where in the trailer are you measuring this height? I'm curious, maybe you are going from floor to bottom of A/C unit, or what?

Eric, I'm 6' 2" and never found the 72" a problem.
I had a 2003 16" SD.
You get used to it after awhile and you spend very little time standing up in the trailer.

I should also point out that the headroom under the air conditioner

I should also point out that the headroom under the air conditioner is less than 72".

John, your perspective, though appreciated, misses the point. Do you represent Scamp in any way? The factory had no response to my email to them re: the headroom issue.

Still figuring this forum out. Posted earlier that the large bed in our 2013 Scamp is narrower than a full size mattress. Don't know what happened to that post. :-\

I think Scamp has some "splainin" to do on advertised headroom. Perhaps my Atty. can motivate a response from them.

Why not just call their toll free number and ask them why the trailer you have doesn't meet the same specs as on their site?

Carol, do most companies who advertise height measure from the bottom of the installed A/C to the floor, or from the ceiling itself down to the floor?

Isn't there some sort of bed width difference in a 16' Scamp between Deluxe and Standard models? (or is that just in the 13' model?)

S.

Sharon I don't know where/how they measure the height but would think it wouldn't be were the AC is located as thats an option that a lot of people don't get and one would expect it to be a bit lower.

Yes as far as I am aware there is a difference in bed size between a Scamp Standard and Deluxe. The Deluxe having the larger bed.

I have the 13' Deluxe with a 54" bed. Mine is a 1992. When I bought it, as some of you recall, I needed an extra space for my grandson to sleep so we remodeled it. I've even had an adult sleep there. Just about everyone on here said don't do the remodel, make him sleep on the floor. (I would never do that). Well I wanted my camper to fit my needs and not worry about resale. I'm very pleased with the remodel and I think it turned out really nice. As you can see, the extra counter can be put back up if needed, and the potty is in the cabinet next to the air conditioner. When it's just me and the pooch, I leave the cushions at home and use it for my tubs of all my junk

You're right, John headroom is 72" not 72.5" as I had originally posted.

Just to clarify the height issue. My trailer measures 72" from floor to ceiling. Approx. 71" when measured floor to ac.

I have no desire to represent Scamp.
My hobby is refurbishing Scamp and other Eggs.
I have rebuilt at least 8 or 10 eggs since I retired in 05.
I find their parts prices atrocious and their shipping even worse.

I had the same thought about their height as you did.
I posted my concern here and a response from Donna Reminded me tat when in the trailer one is very seldom standing up.

I traveled all over the western half of the United States and NEVER had a problem with the height.

The only time I ever hit my head is when I forget to duck when leaving the trailer.
I'm sure many other Scamp owners do the same thing.
I don't think you will find a better FBRV than a Scamp.
Just buy you parts off the net, they are all available if you look.

Eric, you said you bought the trailer on the net.
Are you sure it's a 2013?
Crazy things sometimes happen when internet purchases are made.
