One of the issues I have found in the flat lands is there is often a wind, that along with the higher speed limit seems for me anyways to always result in a lower MPG.

RVing in 1937

Not fiberglass egg, but interesting. especially the pg. 4 statement "During our 4,671 mile tour we averaged eighteen and one third miles per gallon" This in a 1937 car towing a 19' 2,100 lb trailer.????????????????
I can't get that towing my Trillium 4500.
This guy has an interesting site and story. I just spent two hours reading it. I gotta go back to sleep!!

The car in the article is a 36 Chevrolet.

I tow my Casita with my 36 Chevrolet, but it now has a 400 Horse 350 and a 400 Auto transmission.

We also tow with a 63 Pontiac Convertible.

I recall my father (who passed in '94) always said that the last truly great car they ever made was a 1936 Dodge. I thought it was an interesting bias. But I have to admit, those old car and trailer designs do look wonderful even now.

Buckminster Fuller

How about Buckminster Fuller's Dymaxion?

Dymaxion car - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

He's been one of my heros. We have built and lived in Geodesic domes, another concept he created or maybe borrowed from the Inuits.

I liked the build it your self plans at the end. I can not see gas welding a frame I would be very concerned about the strength. My 81 Burro was a kit as the assembly instructions were still with the Burro when I bought it.

New book of old Caravans

My kids (all of whom are in their 50's) gave me this new book last Christmas, and it is very enjoyable reading, with many photos of retro-style "caravans".

The car was a '36 Chevy, it had a 216 cubic inch straight 6 ohv engine and a 3 speed transmission. All cars had manual transmissions in 1936. My uncle had one like it. My father had a '37, I still have the bill of sale from when he bought it brand new for $800.
