Hi Julie

Two month wait is really nothing. A couple of years ago, it was at least 6 months to wait. Time goes pretty fast for 2 months.

Scamp's website today said they had some available for immediate sale. I would have thought that the backlog from the fire would have been around for a while. Maybe that new plant is much more efficient, or capable of producing more units.

Joy recently reported on Yahoo Scampers that Scamp has a number of new Scamps sitting next to the new factory that are for sale.

Did you ask the Casita people if they had any for sale on the lot? When we picked up ours last month it seemed like there were a couple trailers sitting there for sale. Two months isn't that long because it will take you a while to find a used one that you really like.

When I bought my last Casita, they were making around 30+/mo 17 footers plus 16 footers and a few 13 footers. Seems they have cut back.

If you want one for this summer's use, you will need to take what you can get, either new or used. Prices are down so that should help.

Our local RV dealers are reporting that sales are way down. There are several RV manufacturers that have gone out of business. I haven't heard of any Molded Fiberglass RV Manufacturers that have though.

It would stand to reason with all the economy issues we currently have.. that Scamp and Casita would be effected too.

With rare exceptions, our rigs are luxury items and are no doubt things that folks would think about NOT buying in favor of watching the economy for a bit, or saving instead, or they just plain old can't afford them right now.

I know I am VERY glad I did not buy a new rig when I was contemplating it. If I had, it would have been one of the first things to go in order to rebalance my budget with these times. RV payments are an absolute non necessity.

Pete,

I looked for Joy's post and couldn't find it, but read her report about the weather. Could you provide a link?

I ordered my 16 SD the first week of June '04, and it was scheduled for and ready for pick-up that Sept 14th. So two months would be pretty good!
At the factory, they told us they made 10 17ers and 2 16ers per week, so if your info is correct, they have REALLY lowered production.

My pickup day is 6-24. I visited the factory in April. The trailers outside the factory were all waiting to be picked up. None were for sale. In fact, the ones Inside - the floor models - were waiting to be picked up too. Even those were pre-ordered.

My original pick up date when I ordered in the first few days of May was July 17. I worked my way into an ealier slot when someone else getting a Liberty had to delay until September for medical reasons. I just got lucky (or was just the squeeky wheel).

I think that they are producing closer to 10 seventeen footers a week, not a month.

For what its worth.

Here it be:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/scampers/message/47791

"Hey, anyone wanting a new Scamp should call the factory. They've got lots
made sitting on the back lot. There must have been 50 inside the building
that they were working as well. Evidently, after the fire they hired
additional workers to catch up on orders and made quite a few extra
trailers. However, I only saw 1 5th wheel on the back lot. I couldn't
see far enough into the building to see if there were any 5th wheels in
there, but there were a lot of 13's and 16's."

She also showed the Scamp people how much easier her Horizon awning is to deploy than the model they now furnish as an option.
