I wonder how many here even know what a Sugar Beet is? I do only because my Dad grew them in Idaho many, many years ago. A harvest is a wonder of mechanization and activity and left an impression on the young lad I was then.

I know what they are! Also grown in MI, Sugar Beets are deer bait for bow hunters.

Unbeetable is right Mike! I past two of the huge piles of beets at depots in the Red River Valley in northeast ND last Sunday and the big plant by Drayton plus got my car wonderfully coated in mud from all the "beet traffic"

When I was in 1st grade in Idaho, I remember the beet trucks going past our school and occasionally dropping a couple. We took them home but I don't remember what my mom did with them.

Yeah, they are not your garden variety beet and out here in the oil patch they are worse then a semi kicking up a rock when it comes to windshields. They fall off the trucks because they are piled so high and the drivers drive like they've got hot mustard up somewhere. Worse the water haulers.

OK Byron, I'll bite. Just how do you use that knife? I'm guessing the spike is for prying them out of the soil, and the blade for cutting the tops and roots off. Am I close?
