I received a great article in the mail from my sister in Virginia. It's a wonderful read, which gets to the essence of why we all love our diminutive trailers where we can enjoy a minimalist lifestyle while LIVING LARGE in the beauty of the great outdoors. It was written by a Casita Owner, Carol Venolia, who writes the Design For Life column for Natural Home magazine. Well done Carol!!

Thanks for sending this link. What a great article! What I like especially is that it emphasizes the freedom that goes with having a small space.

Brian,
For me, it touches on how the small things in life, like the smell of the air or the sounds of nature, allow us to enjoy life more fully. It hits at the core of why so many of us derive a HUGE amount of pleasure from our not-so-very-big, but just-right, campers.
Freedom . . . your right. I find the more I simplify my life, the more free I feel. Some of the "Wisdom" that seeps into us as we spend time in our little trailers is the wisdom to be free . . . Free to be still and be in wonder of it all, free to relax in harmony with our surroundings while leaving a tiny footprint on our surroundings.

Perhaps there is a need for a regular forum item on the joys of trailering. It has struck me before that the forum seems to focus mainly on the technical aspects of trailering -- how to fix things, what to buy, how to make this work -- I would suspect that trailering would not be so popular if there were not some huge benefits of trailering (especially small fiberglass trailering) which the article you sent describes.

Brian,
You're right about the need freely talk about the JOY we all get with our FGRVs. But There already is a venue for that . . . I find that this 'Around the Campfire, General Chat' area lends itself to discussions of that nature. Anyone with a nice thought about their experiences is able to start a new thread topic and let nature take its course as others join the conversation.
A seed such as Carol's article can grow into quite a relaxing place to mingle and share our thoughts.

Pete - we'll add our 'thank you' to those already posted. This is a terrific article that clearly articulates the JOY we find in doing MORE with LESS! Gonna keep copies of the article to share with folks who say "how can you live in something so small?" Thanx again. Regards, L 'n D

It took me a while to mosey over here, but I just want to thank all of you who shared your thoughts about my little article about my little trailer. It's truly heartwarming to know how many of us feel similarly!
It might interest you to know that, of the 47 "Design for Life" columns I've now written for Natural Home Magazine, not one has gotten anywhere near the response that this one got. We're on to something, folks!
Thanks, Pete, for spreading the word.
Carol

Carol,
I just loved your article. I feel the same about getting out with my trailer.
While I haven't taken my trailer anywhere for nearly 3 months, I have gone out and spent hours just sitting or twiddling time away in it. Well, not too much of it as I did do one slight little mod. I made a nice shelf under my front window.

"My trailer has taught me how little space and stuff I need—because my satisfaction doesn’t come from quantity. It comes from feeling safe, snug and magical indoors, while having abundant life at my doorstep." -- from 60 Square feet of Wisdom.

I have Carol's article bookmarked, and have popped in to re-read it several times when I needed a freedom fix.

Carol has another excellent article in the November/December 2009 issue of Natural Home Magazine about her living arrangements while her house was being repaired. She utilized her trailer during that process also. Unfortunately, I could not make a link to the article work.

Yeah Vivan, Natural Living got smart knowing Carol's articles are widely popular on the net ... gotta buy the magazine now to read the article. Drat.
But, the article is Design for Life: Home is Where the Heart Is - When columnist Carol Venolia is forced out of her house for repairs, she learns a new definition of home.
