A Health of a Way.

Our NH doctor moved to New Bern, NC and we have chosen to keep him making a once a year stop. We missed him last year so I was excited to see him.

We were sitting in the waiting room and his assistant called my name. I literally jumped from my seat and ran to her like a child. How silly I can be but it makes me feel good to see him. He treats us like the adults we are, explaining everything and giving us the possible choices.

We've been going to him for 15 years, starting when we hit the road. He's always happy to see us as well. He likes us because we've made medical choices, changing our lifestyles as adults. He said today, that 90% of what he treats is the result of bad choices, I'm sure it's sad for a wonderful man like this.

Our road lifestyle has been good to us and the good doctor has encouraged us to move in the right direction feeding us knowledge and suggestion.

Life is wonderful and he says to keep experiencing it.

A thought on travel and reading

I've written before that there's an adventure to travel and a newness. In my working career I worked lots of jobs intensely for relatively short periods. My feeling was new and different was like having more lives, like living longer. Though we're entering our 15th year of travel, the newness still provides the same feeling of extension of life.

Reading.
One of the problems with life as a friend said recently you start young and stupid and become old and wise. There's some measure of truth in that statement. It takes experience to grow and potentially become wiser. Reading is a way to hasten the rate of growth.

Reading can expose you to more through others lives and actions. The more that you read the faster you can develop. Of course the reading has to be the variety that promotes growth. Again I consider reading another way to extend one's life.

I've always read a lot but had not really considered the role it might provide beyond enjoyment.

Desert Walker

Started watching a movie on Netflix, Tracks, that tells the story of a young Australian women who walks from Alice Springs some 2000 miles to the Indian Ocean in the 1970s.

As she begins her trip she has a number of comments that might as well have sprung from the lips of a full timer.

I've only seen a bit of the movie....

Health App

When we had our annual physical the doctor hooked us up with FollowMyHealth, an android app that keeps a running record with our doctor's practice. Shows the results from our last physical and the previous year's physical, prescription record and so on.

We can use it to set up appoints ask for refills, keep a medical journal visible to the doctor and email the doctor directly.

It's an amazing little app and could be useful on the road should we have to visit another doctor. As we travel we've rarely needed a doctor but when we have we've contacted our doctor and hew would suggest a specialist in the area. This should make that process even easier.

Ginny and I both have an account. Your doctor's practice may have the same ability.

If you are a Veteran and get your healthcare through the VA system like I do, http://www.myhealth.va.gov does the same thing.

Norm,
You probably already know this, but Flanners Beach is a nice little National Forest Service campground nearby New Bern. It's small, with several electric-only sites (you need to add water to your on-board tank before you park) and inexpensive with a geezer pass. We make a point of stopping for a couple of nights on our north - south route.

Ron,

A couple of years ago we pre-registered for Flanner's Beach for two days for a doctors visit. The government closed down for a few days and closed the park. we never got our money back. We'll try it again next year.
