I was awakened at 3:00 AM with the most biggest dangdest noise I ever heard... lighting struck about 1/2 mile up the canyon.
Shook the egg big time.
So it was a hit and started a fire here in bella coola
All day long the helichoppers carted water from mountain lakes to the hit-spot
But it was time to clock out so they all went home
Tonight there is a fire raging in the Bella Coola valley
No way out because there are fires raging on the cariboo plateau too
This is way scary I'll say

Anyway I am stuck here

Or not.

Hang tight Ron. Fires are very scary things, just be alert and stay hitched!

The terminal access the article mentions refers to people coming down the hill. Ron is already down the hill and maybe there'll be more room on the boat.

The fire is only 30 hectares, they could put that out with wet gunny sacks.

Um. No. Only seven firefighters. A fire of similar size on Blackcomb mountain has been burning since Thursday - and that is in a region with lots of available firefighters. A fire in Lillooett that was 4 hectares when it started, and which got plenty of early "action" from fire crews has been going for a couple of weeks.

It is bad this year. There have been much worse years, but this is bad.

Hang in Ron. Hope your A/C is working!

Home now
Here is how I handled the problem even without reading Morgans post (but thanks for the input anyway).

I think most of you will like the picture of a borate bomber over the egg!

This fire near us was small for sure and it was not even remotely the problem of getting out of the Bella Coola valley.
The problem was that it is 250 miles of road just to get to Williams Lake and they too got lightening. There were thirty or forty fires up there and ten or so where on the road or would soon BE on the road so the BC police dudes said that even if the let us up the hill they would just have to stop us later after the hill and that would be even more dangerous for us.
SO I took the ferry.. $1000 in fares in all.

ARGH

Ron, your post was scary to read. I can't imagine being in that situation!

So glad you got out safely. I'd say it was $1,000 well spent.
