A friend sent me this as a Powerpoint presentation. I couldn't upload the whole thing as one item, so here it is, piecemeal. It's remeniscent of the Bolivian Highway piece of a year ago or so.

OMG Victor, those have to best the best pic's They sure made my day seeing those road conditions. I remember as a child travelling from Whitehorse on the Alaska hwy. and after the spring thaw of the perma frost you would get "gumbo" sucking your gum boots off if one stepped out of the car. Russia has beat anything hands down!!!

That looks more like a river than a road!

Yup - reminds me (although the photos are much worse) of one section of the AlCan that I travelled in a VW Camper one summer in the early 70's.

Reminds me of some of the streets in El Paso, TX after the flash floods last year.

I am impressed with the "pot hole"!
One time, when driving down an urban road thorugh the docks in Kolkata (Calcutta, as was), India, a work colleague made an immortal comment:

"It gets dark at the bottom of these potholes, doesn't it?"

Up ahead on this road I saw a man apparently sitting in the middle of the road. After a second, he reared up in the air, revealing that in fact he was riding a scooter that was exactly as high as the depth of the pothole he'd just crossed.

AMAZING pictures! Thanks for posting them!

It reminds me of the "Elbonians" from the Dilbert comic strip! (A backward people who are up to their elbows in mud.)

If that highway goes to Siberia, maybe it is supposed to be (and in the past, was) solid from Permafrost.
Alaska is seeing its Permafrost thawing, resulting in undermined (and collapsing) houses and buildings, and also the phenomenon of "drunken trees" - here's pics:

What's happening to the trees is sad, but whoever coined the term "drunken trees" should get a reward!
Thanks again!

I think I'll quit complaining about the bumpiness of Hwy 99 and I-5 in parts of CA. We really are blessed! Thanks for sharing!
