I was just out cruising the WWW looking for something and stumbled across this:
Quote:
As fuel costs continue to increase and our travel trailer is showing it's age with over 100,000 miles on the road;
<SNIP>
The life of a travel trailer is considered to be ten years. We are now over the eleven year mark and it is showing many signs of structural problems.
Obviously NOT talking about a Molded Lightweight Fiberglass RV

That would depend on the definition of "Structural Problems." How many of us have done "frame off" restorations? Myself, I can put it off no longer... I have to pull all my windows and replace the butyl tape. The cushions are air drying as we speak.

I am not sure that is structural, but I am about to do the same. At least it's only windows and not an entire wall!

Me to Gina..about the windows. None currently leak, but it is a 1988 model and eventually it's gonna happen. The Scamp is going in for paint in May and I'm going to pull and reseal the windows before that...rather do it before, than a year after!

I have to chime in here......our stick built is a 1997. We are the only owners and it's only traveled about 5-6 thousand miles but it's in great shape. The things that are wrong with it are the awning is showing wear (we have used it everytrip and leave it up no matter what the weather), there is surface rust in a few spots on the frame and it's really dirty on the outside. Oh yeah and someone stole out water heater cover door.

Not all stick builts are equal and not many log 100,000 miles. That's a bunch!

Donna, I'd pull the windows then paint the trailer and reinstall them. Windows are really no big deal to do, not hard, just labor intensive (all that icky scraping). We've done them in every used RV we've bought.

hummm, didn't I say that Yep definitely going to do that! Also going to have some extra rivet covers painted at the same time the trailer's painted...just in case I lose one or two down the road.
