Airstream and Nest?

Apparently Airstream is partnering with Nest to bring it to market this year.

There have been several recent discussions of this project. IIRC, the launch date has been pushed back to 2018. The pictures in this article appear to be of Robert Johans' prototype, which we saw a couple of years ago.

Robert himself posted on one of the recent threads that work is continuing, but teaser photos from Airstream only show the largely unchanged exterior.

Still waiting for the big reveal...

Not exactly. Wade Thompson and Peter Orthwein purchased Airstream in 1980. That was the beginning of Thor Industries. "THOR" is the first two letters of each of their last names. Since the founding in 1980, Thor has bought several other RV manufacturers.

So Thor doesn't own the "rights" to Airstream, it owns Airstream.

:rbryan thanks for correcting me on this, so does that mean any new airstreams will be built by Thor including the one discussed in this column? that we just saw, I wonder if they will build that little FG Model with twin beds, looked like it as possibilities.

Thor is the parent company, it owns Airstream, and Airstream now owns Nest. Thor doesn't build the trailers, Airstream does. But since Thor owns Airstream, that means they indirectly own Nest too, since they own all of Airstream's assets. In many ways it's no different than hundreds of other parent companies, like GM owning Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac.
