Alberta got snow

Just want to check that the Eggy people from Alberta are ok and not snowed under. Some places appear to have received a huge dump of snow.

2nd the concern. Hope all is well.
We had 70 degree weather today, but about to get our dose of
ice and snow in a couple of days. I spent today making sure our
plumbing will withstand the coming weather. One more day to go
and stock up at the store. Then it can come what may.

Excuse my ignorance but how do you prepare your plumbing for cold weather and why? We have snow and below zero temps for weeks at a time and never do anything to the house plumbing The only thing we do is put straw on the septic drain field if we don't get enough snow to insulate the ground

We had a bad plumbing leak last week. Burst actually.
We called in the plumbers, but it seems they are really
good at tearing down the insulation and doing the repairs,
but it seems I always have to go behind them and check to
see how they left it. As usual, it was all exposed, so I had
to get another roll of insulation and redo around the plumbing
areas. Otherwise the winds get to the pipes and they always
freeze. Just a precautionary measure. I learned after the first
assumption that the plumber replaces what they tear down.

We didn't have any problems until we had to start calling for
plumbers. I'm not really able to do much like that, but you
do what you have to.

And it's a double wide, so you can imagine the expert plumbing
that's done to start with.

Not so much the volume of snow we got, but we got blasted with wind for a couple days, causing all kinds of grief. Temps are fairly cold too. Today though, the wind died down, so -15°C (5°F) felt rather balmy by comparison. Shovelling all that wind packed snow was no fun chore, but sure was good exercise.

Temps are expected to drop a bit more, and stay cold for the foreseeable future.

Not this bad here. This shot was taken at Three Hills, about 90 minutes NE of Calgary.

Snow ice cream at the door.
And then snuggle weather afterwards.

I Echo what Jim said ^^^
I ended up with a 4' drift behind the garage and 2' piled up at our back door. Took 2 hours with a snow blower to get the cars out of the gargage and us out the back door.

As for winterizing I drain all the tanks then blow out all the water lines with compressed air, this makes sure there is no water left in the system and lines. Final step is to pour RV antifreeze into all the drain traps to prevent those pipes from freezing and bursting.

My kids love it. The nice thing about Alberta is that it is dry. So, if it gets cold, just put on more insulation. Chapstick is a must though.

I have never used the stuff myself, Dave. Don't know many who do either.

Like your kids, my dog loves the snow too.

Jim, Back in the days before Global Warming we used to live in a 50' hemispherical Geodesic Dome. After a heavy snow, the snow would slide off the fiberglass roof and bury the doorways.

We had a high window and would put the two boys out the window with shovels to clear the doorway.
