It very often does make sense, from a business standpoint to consolidate several smaller operations into one. Here is an example, in the late 80's/early 90's my son and I were involved in racing off road motorcycles. I knew some of the people in the industry ( Kawasaki ) and at the time, their factory sponsored team was using as many as four smaller one ton box vans to haul their team equipment. They then switched to a custom built 18 wheeler which held everything they needed. It was actually cheaper overall since they had to only buy fuel for one truck, and pay the wages and per diem for just one driver.
Look behind the scenes sometime at the support structure for a traveling rock band or similar. Pretty common for them to have a dozen or so 18 wheelers. How'd you like to pay their fuel bill ?!
Personally, I thought the Will Smith trailer is awesome. Don't care one bit for him....but the trailer is cool.
