Amerigo

I'm interested in an Amerigo but have noticed this is the least discussed FB trailer. What is the reason for this?
I love my 16' Scamp but I'm tired of living in a noodle when I travel and the layout seems to be more conducive to a full time bed.
Any suggestions?

HI Perry, the lack of discussion could be that owners don't frequent FiberglassRV

But, as you know all these brands of trailers are more alike than different. If you find an Amerigo that you like and want... I'd say go for it. There's still plenty of information available here to help you with any problems and lots of folks to answer questions.

"Tired of living in a noodle"? What do you mean; are you tired of everything being rounded off and you want corners again? I'm curious to know how you perceive the advantages and disadvantages of these two brands, besides the bed potential you mentioned.

Oh oh, Perry, You may have insulted some forum members, since the Noodle-iscious shape is exactly what has attracted many FGrs. However, my 13ftr is actually closer to an 'egg' than a 'noodle' shape, so no offense taken on my part

I'll venture to guess he is speaking of the "Hallway" effect. A center aisle and everything else taken up by "stuff".. thus.. like a string of spaghetti?

I wish I could have found an Amerigo as well. The floorplan is just different enough that it looses the noodle effect.

Sorry if I offended anyone an Amerigo is a fiberglass trailer.
I am a FB lover. I have a 16' SD Scamp now which is my 4th personnel Fiberglass trailer.
I started almost 6 years ago with a Trails West. The first time I went camping I was made an offer I couldn't refuse and I sold it.
Since then I have refurbished several Scamps, 2 Trillium 4500s, 1 burro, 2 Bolers and one U-Haul.
I have never seen an Amerigo other than pictures. It appears to be about a foot wider and the front table has 2 very large windows on 2 sides. The extra width gives it a much roomier, open and desireable floor plan.
The ever wise Gina is correct. It's the hallway effect. I never noticed it on short trips until last September when I took a 3 week, 4000 mile trip.
Sorry if I offended anyone but I still would like to see a wider Amerigo.

If it's a change to the layout and a nice big front window for a dinette you're looking for Perry, consider both the Bigfoot and Escape 17 footers. I think both appear less noodle too

We could discuss my Amerigo but since I haven't started in on it there isn't much to say.
Not sure why you'd think the layout is that much different than the others - seems much the same to me.

Peter, I have only seen pictures. It appears that at least 3 people can sit at the front dinette and it seems to be wider. Does it have a torsion type axle or the standard spring type?
Donna, If I go over 16' I give up the registration fee of $10.00 for 5 years. California makes you pay through the nose for vehicle fees. I'm sure they will find this good deal and we will lose it when Gov. Moonbeam takes office.

Quite sure it's a torsion axle as it sits low but I haven't had it up on the lift to inspect the undercarriage.

Is there a dimensioned floor plan out there that would explain the difference between regular trailer layouts and the Amerigo? If appears that the trailer is larger (wider), and less 'rounded', that could explain the fact that it feels roomier inside.

I've been told that Amerigo made pop-ups and used the same base mold for the FG camper - adding the top half and interior.

I forgot you Californian's can get permanent tags on your trailers ... no such animal available in Oregon. I understand why you'd look for something a tad bit shorter!!
