GREAT IDEA!! When doing your Christmas / Holiday cards this year, take one card and send it to this address. If we pass this on and everyone sends one card, think of how many cards these wonderful special people who have sacrificed so much would get.

When you are making out your Christmas card list this year, please include the following:

<strike> A Recovering American Soldier
c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue,NW
Washington,D.C. 20307-5001 </strike>

p.s. hope this isn't too political

Seems legit: http://www.snopes.com/politics/chris...ldiercards.asp, but address has changed this year.

Quote:
Recent years have seen several Internet-based grass-roots promotions of programs that enable the public to send letters, cards, gifts, and other greetings to U.S. troops serving overseas or recovering in stateside hospitals, particularly around the holiday season. [b]Unfortunately, many such promotions (such as the "Recovering American Soldier" effort) have not worked out as well as hoped due to insufficient organization, deadlines, security concerns, and other factors.

For the 2008 holiday season, the Red Cross is sponsoring a "Holiday Mail for Heroes" program to distribute holiday cards to service members, a program that encompasses not just troops who are recovering in military hospitals but also service members stationed throughout the U.S. and abroad, as well as veterans and their families

And thanks Sharon for bringing it to our attention. Nothing political about bringing a smile into someone's life.

Unhappy

This is what I found:

Please send cards to this address, following the guidelines listed below:

Holiday Mail for Heroes
PO Box 5456
Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456

http://www.redcross.org/email/saf/

OR

Holiday cards should be mailed to:
Holiday Mail for Heroes
P.O. Box 5456
Capitol Heights, MD. 20791-5456

All cards must be postmarked no later than Dec. 10. Cards should not be mailed or delivered to Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

However, if you go to snopes, the one for Walter Reed is false.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/christmas/walterreed.asp

she says it is FALSE.

However, I haven't been able to find a similar statement on WRAMC site. Developing.

for the correction. Surely want everyone's efforts to end up in the right place! Thanx to all who participate in brightening the holidays for someone.
