jmacchi, not sure about Scamps, but I know the older Casitas are lower profile than the new ones. I would assume that is cause the vehicles of the earlier years where lower profile as well. I think back to my first cars even in the 70's where a lot lower to the ground than vehicles I have owned in the last 10 years. It will be interesting to hear what others say.

Cute rig, Congrats! Enjoy!

If they weren't then, they will be now. Axle rubber relaxes over time and sloooowly the trailer starts coming down closer to the pavement (and wheel wells). I'm not sure, but I don't think the hitch height has changed over the years. Measure it.... should be 18" to the top of the ball (coupler).

I was thinking the original poster meant "lower to the ground," but now that you say that I realize that it's not totally clear. Maybe he was talking about headroom or overall height, and then yes, the newest Scamps are a few inches taller (more headroom).

Nice looking Scamp, jmacchi!

thanks fro the replies guys. i was talking ground clearance, seems the new scamps are higher from the ground and have more wheel to fender clearance. kevin, did you go for a 22 degree downward axle? if i can ask how did your old axle look as far as swingarm angle and how many miles was it like that? i know mine is original and must be about shot but id like to get this season on it before i replace it. and if this thread is getting too problem specific i have no problem moving. im surprised that nobody asked if i was going to be towing the 83 scamp with the 83 rabbit in the pic! btw im not, i would if it had a hitch

Bought my Trailer from the original owner, Oct 2007 he had it for 24 years. I have the 22 degrees down axle, you could go with the 12 degree down axle if you want. My hitch height (19") is only 1" higher than when it was new. I have a trailing arm axle now.

Wow Kevin it appears that you can see the entire wheel. My Scamp is somewhere in between your two photos. I'd say you can see about half the rubber above the rim on mine. Even after 8 years my trailer has yet to settle. I measure it occasionally, ground to center of wheel well opening.
