Argosy trailers???

Posted by Steven Colli, Member, Connecticut

I saw 3 of these at Old Orchard Beach this last weekend and before now I never heard of them before. They look like a painted old Airstream. What is the deal with these?

Hi
I think Argosys are Airstreams that had a flaw in the skin. At least thats what I was told.I don't know if its true or not.

Airstream started painting some of its rigs white, because it was losing so many sales to Scamp, Boler and Trillium in the 70s.

No, true is ... Argosy was Airstream's "starter" level rig for a number of years. It was a lot cheaper than an Airstream.

Because the aluminum panels were painted, Airstream was able to use cheaper panels during the construction.

Old Argosy owners are a fierce breed ... just like old Airstream owners.

However, those owners don't hold a candle to the owners of our molded fiberglass wonders!

Besides, ours are a lot easier to tow!

They made motorhomes too. I have a friend that has one.

Argosy

I see quite a few older Argosy's in this area. From 16 foot to maybe a 21 footer. They are wider and have more rounded glass on the front. Sometimes, you have to double check when you see one from a distance, they can look like an "EGG" camper. Also, are a similar trailer made by another company called AVION. They are more on the lines of an AIRSTREAM.

I agree with Ray, the photo I took of it going down the road was from a ways away and it looked like a long egg trailer but painted.

On the way to the North Pole

On the way to the Adirondack Mini Rally today, found this just outside of Long Lake. Not sure of the year, but it's an Argosy... (posted image no longer available)
