Are Scamps really that cheap to buy? I knew they were the least expensive, but never realized they started at $8,300 CAD ($6,500 USD). That is a good deal. To be fair though, these Armadillos are sure decked out with nice components.

Where can a high interest savings account be found now? I think mine is less than 1%.

Me & my champagne taste!

Scotiabank have a new account that can get you up to 1.8% interest (or 2.85% on a limited time promotional thing). Going to set one up on Saturday morning!

How much are the scamps? I had a look at the website but couldn't find any prices. Honestly though, it's the design of the armadillos that rocks my world rather than pure layout & function.

Oh, and build time right now is three months (which is kinda good, it makes me less likely to go crazy & go and get finance since it wouldn't be ready for our early July trip anyway!). We can squirrel money away & if I'm still hell bent on one in March of next year, we can go crazy then. The tent trailer will do the trick for this summer!

No they are not that cheap, I think they start at $10k US now (I could easily be wrong). If that is correct then the Scamp 13 is still half the price for more features.

Edit: Please just make the music stop.

They are using Boler molds. Also link was slow to load for me.
:maybe a Boler Mold but the one item the did fix for all time is the door, no more curve. I wonder if Scamp did that?

$10k would be just over half. That sounds more reasonable. I went to the Scamp site and could see no pricing.

There are music controls on the page to shut it off. Glad I found that, it certainly was annoying.

I noticed that too. A way more functional door with screen. This is the way Escape went with the new models, and I like it a lot better than my 19's moulded door. The moulded door looks great, just not so nice to use though.

The guys did say that from their lifetime of fixing fiberglass eggs, they've figured out exactly what fails & breaks & made modifications accordingly. The door must be one!

From what I've read, Armadillo used Lil Bigfoot molds, which had a very similar recessed flat door. Only difference I can see is the Armadillo has radius corners at the top- the Lil Bigfoot's were square.

Well the base Armadillo does not come with the 30A converter, you have to spend $3.2k US more to get that option.

The converter is $250CAD, you can add it onto the base package (lol, I've spent a seriously long time on the website. #fangirl )

That is good to know, I really thought it was odd to not be in the base package.

Some folks use just solar so no need for a converter....

Is the discussion about a converter or an inverter? They are not the same thing. I’ve found that some don’t know the difference. It would be good to know.

This is a good point, especially given the advances in technology and reduction of costs for a good solar system. Unless you need A/C, in the future there would not be much need for 120V at all, let alone a converter.

Because we don't have super high needs for power while we camp (keep the lights running, have enough power to charge our phones & bluetooth speakers to listen to music!), we'd like to get a solar package We don't usually camp where there are hookups, and don't use enough power to need a generator, but a little would be nice
