My vote has to be for Larry Flynt. We have huge budget problems here in California. Who better to solve this problem than a true "skin" Flynt?

All we can say is that we are Californians and it was way past time to recall Gray Davis ....... our state went deep into debt with him as Governor. Tripling the car tax was the last straw.....

(Californians) are being laughed at right now, but we will come out better in the end.

........... resign from office today and save the citizens multi-millions of dollars in recall costs? Wouldn't that make the recall moot? Cruz Bustamante (current Lt. Gov.) would become governor and all the Democrats, at least, would be happy. Gray's going to be gone in any scenario, and, it seems to me, that type of strategy would be the only way the Demos can hold on to the exec office. (I hope they don't listen to me!) ;)

Of course, I'm still for the Terminator and that's who would be my guy if I still lived there!

I hope you are all keeping track of the people running for Governor... We even have a dog to vote for.... It's sad to see such a joke being made out of something very serious...... But this is California... for $3500 and 65 signatures ... you too could run for governor if you live in California.

It really narrows down to just a few candidates and the rest are throwing their money away just to say they once ran for Governor. I wish I had their money to throw away.

Even if Davis did resign today, the replacement part of the recall would still happen, it's the way the law reads. So Busamante would have have a job for about 8 weeks until the new election, and then more than likely be "terminated"...

What I find interesting is that under normal circumstances, the RNC would be doing a happy dance that a Republican is the front runner in a dedicated Democrat state, but they've been completely silent. Maybe because while Ahhnold is a Republican he flies in the face of the Republican agenda... I mean he's pro-choice, pro-public schools, pro gay rights, and worst of all he was against the impeachment debacle a few years ago. In other words, he's their worst nightmare, someone they can't control... kinda like Dean in the Democratic camp.

California is a wonderful place with lots of good people (like our forumites here) but it's a liberal experiment manifested. Ozzy Osbourne, Gary Coleman and Arnold- how appropriate. I'd say Arnold can surround himself with enough good people to do the job. If I lived there (never) he'd have my vote. A bit naive but I think his motivation is honorable since he doesn't need the power or money. You liberals can take heart that there is a Shriver/Kennedy involved. God knows the professional politicos can't get their act together!! Driver's licenses for illegals and no exit exam for HS students- sheesh. Sounds like paradise to me!!!
As for Dean/Hitlary, not in a million years. Socialism does not work- just ask the Canadians about national health care. We have lived under a liberal agenda since the 60's civil rights stuff. Like many things, I agree in principle and change was needed but like unions and affirmative action it has been usurped by those who do not care about helping themselves and only degrades the country. Liberals need to realize that they do not know what is best for me(we Americans can make our own choices). Welfare and public housing are a joke, and I am already paying 40% of my income in taxes. If that bunch get in I'll be paying 70. Savage is in SanFran, let's put him on the ballot too. Just kidding here....

Great idea!! we could all chip in and get Carol to run. then we move to California and vote for her. She could then pass a law that molded fiberglass traiers are not taxed. :yep I like it. :thumb

Carol, that sure sounds familiar!

I mean, is there a state that's NOT having $$$ problems right now?

Our Governor is cutting spending everywhere and considering bringing in thousands of slot machines (ugh) but it's not enough to plug the hole in the budget.

Over the river in Virginia, the Governor also has a huge deficit to deal with, in no small part due to their previous Governor's effort to repeal the car tax.

I'm not a Davis supporter, don't live in California, don't really care who wins -- but we all lose when we start playing games like this recall.

From what I've come to gather, the standard for recall is supposed to be malfeasance in office.

Gray Davis may be a dud, a dork and a loser, but the proper recall is known as the next election.

This is not a healthy precedent to be set. :crazy-ii

We already have that law - KINDA! It is called PTI. They just need to expand it to 17 footers. All camp trailers 16 foot and under qualify for the PTI. Not annual liciense fees.

Tom... your last three lines hit the mark dead center!

If all that was needed was 10% of the registered voters to sign a petition to get a politician ousted from office, imagine what would have happened in the past 10 years... Clinton would have been recalled, Bush Jr would be recalled and we would spend all of our time at the ballots... Kinda why there are Election Days... If you don't think the politician is doing a good job, you can vote him out.

If anyone wants to talk deficits... Try here in NY. We're taxed to the max already, and it's getting worse. I'm single, no kids, and by the time federal, fica, state is taken out, I bring home HALF of my gross. Our sales tax just went up 1 1/2% in my county, and we won't even get into school taxes... since the yahooos in Albany can't seem to pass a budget on time to save their lives every year the schools borrow money which has interest that needs to be paid back.

Of course, I won't complain about the vehicle registration... from what I understand in CA you can't afford to put a new car on the road.

I agree Eric- us singles get hammered but I am in the south where it's not too bad. Here in TN we have no state tax but we pay 9.5 #@!*^ percent sales tax on EVERYTHING(including my new used dually). Work here also pays nothing, but it beats the west coast and NY for individual freedom and that's what's important to me. In NY or CA I'd have to give up my collectable full autos.

As for CA recalls, perhaps it stinks but it is a law on the California books, and is consistent with one of the main tenets of the Constitution....the right of the people to remove a corrupt politician. This is debatable (kile the reasons for Iraq) but it seems to me that Davis is more than incompetent- he has bought every special interest group and they now run the state by proxy. Sounds like poor judgement on the part of the public to vote Davis into office in the first place.

They just had a report on the news ...

It's going to cost California (taxpayers) millions of dollars to redo all the voting machines to accomodate a ballot with so many candidates.

And the candidates are going to be listed randomly, rather than alphabetically ... so voters will have to wade through hundreds of names to find the stripper (Angel-ine, or whatever).

Talk about hanging chads!

I'v always had a theory about Taxes: It relates to human nature and money in general.
If you are spending your own money on something for yourself, you are careful with the cost and also the quality.
If you are spending your money on something for someone else you really watch the cost and let the quality slide.
If you are spending someone elses money on something for yourself, you really go for the quality and never worry about the cost.
If you are spending someone elses(the taxpayers) money on something for someone else( the taxpayer again) to hell with the cost or the quality.
