At an impass

We are pondering selling our Scamp. We are needing to replace our tow vehicle before it falls apart more and aren't sure we can justify the bigger expense when we don't need it for much else. We keep busy in the summers with house fixer upper projects and it only sees about 12-14 days of use a year, therefore only needing the truck that many days a year and being stuck with worse MPG the rest of the year. Plus the cost of the vehicle goes down. We're trying to weigh it all out now as we've been visiting dealerships.

Is the used market still pretty hot for 5 year old scamps? It's in perfect condition, hubby is type A and maintains things wonderfully. Any helpful tips on pricing? I've looked some at the sold threads, but it's hard when age, condition and layout vary so much. PM if you like too

If we do sell we'd switch back to being tent campers and be able to bring along Grandpa's fishing boat. The girls are older now(5 and 6, almost 7), having the Scamp when they were babies was a life saver, and when they are off to college maybe we'd get ourselves a new one.

Any helpful thoughts, I'd appreciate it...I'm torn.

Hmmm, maybe a little custom canvas for the boat and you'll have the best of both worlds.. Oh, wait. Wouldn't you have to get another vehicle to tow the boat too?

Kids that age can have a lot of fun out of a tent too. Tent would be more of an "adveture". When I was that age I had my own tent. I set up my tent right beside mom and dad's, I thought I was pretty big stuff back then. Still have that tent..

Two thoughts.

Prices are at a premium in spring and summer

• Get just the minimum tow vehicle to fit your needs. You don't need a huge pickup. A minivan like a Sienna or Odyssey tow 3500 pounds.

The boat is just a small fishing boat, so we don't need much to tow it around.

My 07 4 cyl. Tacoma towed my 16' scamp through the Rockies, the Tetons, California and Arizona comfortably.
In California and Arizona I usually have my 680 lb ATV in the truck.

Buy your new TV. Leave the Scamp parked while you tent camp. Fifteen years from now when your kids are gone, it will still work, you may have a new TV that might pull it, and you won't be back here trying to find a used camper that is can be so difficult to find.

If it were me, I'd keep it. Could be used as a guest house, slumber party area when your kids get a little older, real short and close to home camping trips when you just need to get away from the home projects. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

After reading your post I think you might as well sell,,,,,,,,,,,,
The bit of use it gets isn't worth having around. Lots of camping
places have little bungalows, the tent thing is ok but I think those girls
won't be much interested in camping in a couple of years.
You sit on it and it deteriots (wish I could spell!) and the value goes down anyway.
Your gonna need a taxi soon not a tow vechile!!
