I'm so excited. Shirley and I were playing Cribbage, out on the deck
last evening, and I got a 29!!!!! It really does happen.

I dealt, and of course the little one accused me of cheating....:-) I dealt
myself (4) 5's, a Queen and a King. I discarded the K & Q and she cut me a
Jack. WOW!! 29 points. life is good.

I know some people play Cribbage their entire lives and never hit a 29. I never believed it could happen to me.

Just had to tell you all. Gifts (cash, preferably), of congratulaions will be accepted.

Keith,

Congratulations! 19 is more my style... though there has been one 29 in 46 years of play.

The Stars are Aligned! You should pack and head for Vegas right now!

(And I always thought crib was for old folks.)

I am going to buy Lotto tickets for sure. And, I are getting to be a Old Folk in years, but not in spirit. We love to play Euchre but it's not a good 2 person game. And since no one loves us (I'm going out to eat some worms in a minute) we needed a game we could play when it's just us 2. We learned to play Crib while down at "Geezerville" / Good Life RV Resort and it fits the bill. We really enjoy the game.

Later.

Way to go! My dad has hit 29 a couple times, but I haven't yet after playing for 45 years.

Now for the rest of the story. You got 29 in one hand, but who won the whole game?

I really hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you got a 28 point hand. You need to hold the jack of the 5 turned over with the cut to get nibs, bringing the hand up to 29.

The 2 points you get for turning the jack are pegging points, and do not count towards the hand (besides, that would be 30 )

But still, 28 is great. I have played a ton of cribbage over the years and that is the best I ever got, and only once. I did deal someone else a 29 once.

Man, now I feel like the Grinch who stole Christmas.

I'm going back to bed. I'm going to have to research this. Sounds like you know what you're talking about but I have to find some rules somewhere. When she cut the Jack for me, I took the 2 points then, but when I counted, it sure was a "29 looking" hand then with the Jack and my 4 fives. I figured it didn't matter whether I turned the Jack over, or had it in my hand and turned the 4th five over. Crap...oh, well, I'm going to enjoy it anyway.

Thanks????

Well, again, I say.....NUTS! ...Jim, you Turkey You are correct. I thought about this some more and I know you can't count the Jack as a match unless it's in your dealt hand. I was so excited, I didn't want to think about it. So......I accept that it was really a 28 hand..BUT I STILL WON the cottonpickin game.

So, that's OK. I want to do it right. Now, back to the quest for the perfect 29. Oh well.

Gobble, gobble.

I debated with myself whether to post the truth and burst you bubble because I did not want to be mean, or post the truth so folks could know and learn. The OCD in me made me post the truth though.

Congrats on winning the game, sorry for ruining your moment.

Another cribbage point that most folks do wrong. The pone is the person who leads, the player to the left of the dealer. The pone is also supposed to cut the deck, so when playing four handed you are supposed to cut ahead, not behind like most other games. I bet 90% of the people I have played with do it wrong.

Another misconception is that the loser deals first in the next game. The deal continues to rotate into the beginning of a new game. Conceding the game when it is your deal, only if you are over the skunk line and have no hope of winning, is a strategy so that you can have the first crib of the next game.

My grandfather, who I learned from, was a big time tournament player. I used to play tons but have actually played only a few times a year lately. We do play tons of card games though, some board games and dice too.
